I'm starting to see a LOT of movement on Thursday and Friday...

Recommended Posts

Not from the Panthers necessarily, but surely for other teams...

Say Pittsburgh is really going to give old Ben the boot... They'll need a QB, as I don't think Leftwich is the long-term answer...

Oakland would likely be very interested... They hold the 8th pick... I could very well see Pittsburgh moving Ben for the 8th alone... Straight up...

Pittsburgh could then take Clausen if he is still there... If not, they could take a top OT or someone to aid their other needs... They'd still also have their other first rounder later on, if Clausen is there and they want to roll the dice and hope he slides to that spot (he could, but I doubt it)...

Another player even higher up in my draft motion, I predict Kansas City will be looking hard to slide down... They are a prime target to move down with Philly, who could also be targeting Clausen or someone like Joe Haden to improve their secondary... It would take a lot to move up, because Kansas City isn't as desparate for a QB as Oakland would be (Ben holds more value to the Raiders because they need him more, and would be willing to give up more to get him)... Philly has a lot to give (5 picks within the first 87)...

I see Philly trying to move up with someone, and for the sake of this thread I will say it is Kansas City... Philly would likely have to give up their own first (24th), a second (they have the one right after Kansas City in the second now (37)), a third (they have two), and their fourth... They could likely even squeeze more out of the deal... This deal would give Kansas City a LOT of room to work with for a team that is pretty much rebuilding... They would now have picks 24, 36, 37, 50, 68, 70, 102 and 121 within the first four rounds...

Philly would still have a pick in each round, and would be able to get a top 5 player on their board... Kansas City has now stocked up with early picks in a draft rich in talent well into the third and fourth rounds...

Those are the major movers I see... even if it doesn't happen exactly like that...

Also of note, and not that this is any sort of driving factor in why I see these things happening, but it sure would make it easier for us to send next year's first to KC for the 36 or 37th pick if one of our top guys were there... KC would essentially be gaining a first rounder next year and a hell of a lot of picks this year for basically nothing, as they would still keep a first and two seconds this year...

The Eagles will not move into the top 5.. maybe the top 10 but not the top 5.

I had considered Buffalo another potential partner, but they could be targeting similar players there...

Whatever happens, I think this is going to be one of the most exciting drafts in a long time, and really worth the primetime slot...

I really see the Eagles moving up to the #10 spot. Eagles would get #10 and a 5th rd pick, Jacksonville would get Philly's 1st 2nd rd pick and their 1st rd pick. this would be great for Jacksonville. they could take Dez bryant in the 1st, then The Golden Calf of Bristol in the 2nd. Phily would most likely take Joe Haden.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
