Things that may happen when training camp begins.

OFFENSE:

Lets be honest, this is a rebuilding year, and as such, we'll use it as on the job training to see(A) which QB is going to be our starter going forward in 2011, and (B) which receivers come on towards the end of the year and show that they are ready to be our number 2 & 3 receivers in 2011.

QB - I think Moore will start, but if Fox keeps and open mind, truly uses this as on the job training to see who is best....then I think Clausen could be starting sometime in the last half of the year.

WR - We all know that it normally takes WR's a couple years to start making real impact. I know these guys should show spurts this year, but I don't think we'll see consistency out of them. I think we'll see a few "Wow, did you see that" plays sandwiched in between alot of learning.

So, my hope is that by the end of the year, on offense, we have a solid QB who is going to be our starter for the next 10 years, as well as a solid back up in place. As well, we have a slot receiver and a tall blocking receiver to complement Smitty. If we do that, and our O-Line stays in good shape, our offense will be SCARY in 2011!!!

DEFENSE:

Again, this is a rebuilding year, but I think our defense can be respectable with two big questions:

1) Can Tyler and Leonard get the job done at DT?

2) While we have starters who are young and should gain alot of experience in order to be strong in 2011, do we have any back ups in case of injuries? If we don't have any injuries, we'll be lower to middle of the pack as a defense. But if we have a few injuries....I think it could get ugly!!!

My biggest concern with next season is our receiving game. Will Barnidge continue to make big plays and become solidified as our starter? Who is going to be our number 2 receiver? It will be interesting to see how our receivers respond with Moore passing and whether they will continue to improve.

I don't see how it is rebuilding. All we did on offense was add talent. Defensively we lost Peppers but with that comes the bigger and more experienced Brown(year2) and we just drafted Norwood and Hardy who should provide immediate pass rush help. Brayton is returning to help stop the run. Obviously they think Tyler and Leonard can get the job. Ed Johnson provides talented depth. Harris is a loss in leadership and experience but he will also be supplanted by a more talented player, either Martin or Godfrey.

I don't think the offense will be any worse than last season. The only loss on offense is WR Mushin Muhammad, and he was replaced by LaFell, and Jarret could finally step up.

Today's trade greatly improves the Panthers defense, by starting 4 DB's with CB cover skills. If Jamar Williams is Thomas Davis backup WLB, allowing James Anderson to start at SLB (backed up by rookie Eric Norwood), with Dan Connor remaining as the backup MLB, the Panthers OLB's will be much faster, and better in pass coverage,

The addition of rookie Greg Hardy improves the pass rush, and adds the needed depth at DE. The only defensive weakness left is at DT, and if the Panthers can add a big run stopping DT, the Panthers defense could be truly smothering.

Nice post. I feel the same way. Just got a feeling we'll be better than advertised. TC should be very interesting.

      Do you honestly believe this is a team that will even be in contention for a playoff spot this year? To me, if you're not at minimum a genuine playoff caliber team, every win you get is a meaningless win in the end.  This is the NFL, it's not peewee league where you just want to win a few games and have fun, you want to get into the playoffs and have a shot at making a SB run. We haven't had a winning season in how many years?   Does "enjoying" a small handful of wins every year really make for an enjoyable season for you? I said it months ago and I'll say it forever, I don't care about winning or losing this year, as we don't have a playoff caliber roster yet and I'm a realist about where we are as a franchise.  I'd enjoy watching the games so much more if the team and Bryce in particular were just showing marked improvement, even if it came in losses.   Because THAT would give me hope for the future of the franchise and the direction we're going. Bryce was complete garbage in Week 1, in Week 2 he was terrible until the Cardinals went into super soft prevent defense and then collapsed gain when the game was in reach, and he was a serviceable game manager today, but didn't make any throws that any college QB couldn't make. This game was a perfect chance to let Bryce go out there and play loose because of the lead, just let him be himself and see if it sparks his college self.  But instead, we went unbelievably conservative with the play calling to help ensure the win, when actual wins and losses are the least of our worries this year, it's figuring out what Bryce can be (fans may be decided, but the team obviously has not yet).

      Pretty fair assessment overall. I can’t say a lot since I didn’t watch but going by the comments I am betting he (Canales) was very conservative and a large reason would be to prevent Bryce giving it away half the day.
