Canes sign Babchuk as expected

Recommended Posts

The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed Anton Babchuk to a one-year contract.

Babchuk will earn $1.4 million next season in what is starting to become a good Carolina defense. Babchuk did not sign with the Hurricanes last season, choosing to return to his native Russia where he had nine goals and 22 points in 49 games with Omsk. He managed 16 goals and 35 points in 2008-09 with the Hurricanes so he is definitely a sleeper this season with his offensive flair.

This guy has great ability, but a huge attitude problem. Hopefully he's a year wiser after going back home.

He's good on the powerplay but he can be a defensive liability. I'm not exactly ecstatic about this move, but I think he could help the team.

Back on the blue line I'm really looking forward to seeing what McBain can do over an entire season.

    • Like every season we won't know anything until the live fire starts. However, I am impressed with the high level of optimism from everyone in the organization. Canales was even mentioning making the playoffs. Wow.

    • And really, it should be 4 reasons with the last one being that there were ZERO other offensive weapons on that team in 2024, opposing defenses only had to worry about one player all year long and they constantly double and triple teamed him right off the snap all season.  In 2023, we still had Jacob Cowing who had 90 catches that year and was drafted by the 49ers last year, so teams couldn't just send everyone after T-Mac on every passing down.
