Phil Jackson has officially signed a contract to return to the Los Angeles Lakers. The 11-time NBA champion coach announced on July 1 that he would return for what he called "the last stand for me" but it took until last week to finalize a new contract, according to a source close to the situation.

Terms of Jackson's new contract have not been released. A message left for his agent Todd Musburger Monday evening was not returned.

With Jackson's deal finally in place, the Lakers were able to quickly reach agreements with the rest of his staff. Longtime assistants Brian Shaw, Frank Hamblen and Jim Cleamons are returning and special assistant Chuck Person has officially been added to the staff.

The Lakers have improved since the end of the season and will dispose of "The 3 and dung" in Miami.

Time will tell, the only position starters wise the Lakers are clearly better at than the Heat is Center, and Miami is doing a nice job building a bench right now.

Gasol>>Bosh

Fisher/Blake>>Chalmers

Ron Artest and Matt Barnes will give LeBron fits with their defense

Gasol and Bosh are very even in some areas but I'd take Bosh any day, Arroyo will probably start and he and Fisher's stats are comparable and last but not least, to try and say that Artest or Barnes are in any way on a same level with LeBron is laughable!

Did I ever say they were on the same level, or even close to the same level. Reread my post.....

Last time Artest tried to check The King, he fouled out in a blow out and ended up falling down the stairs concussing himself later that night. LOL. He cant handle LeBron.

Matt Barnes plays pretty good D as well, at least thats what I've heard....

Are we talking regular season games again? :hand:

Last I remember Artest was the MVP in Game 7 of the NBA Finals vs the Boston Celtics.

    • After seeing hits in the last two UDFA pools, I do not in this group sorta of a let down after I gassed myself up.  Not like I know of their games, but just expected more. The duke DT only has to beat out hunte (2025 UDFA) or Ray (DL coach's kid) or even Cam Jackson mid 2025 5th.  I thought they would bring in more edges, IOL, TEs, etc...
    • My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask? 3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!! 5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND. Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start. In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract. A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL. In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.   Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.   Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.
