My Musings...

For everything good I said about Clausen, there is one thing that sticks in the back of my head... I think he has a little bit of Jake in him too... in a good and bad way...

He is super competitive and wants to be fiery I think, but he also might be prone to forcing things, which got Jake into a lot of trouble...

One thing that lessens my fear of that point is that he threw it away a few times when there was nothing there or the pocket collapsed too much (which it did too often)... Cantwell did not, and there was one obvious play where he should have done so...

I know exactly which play you're talking about.. the one where the lineman had his leg and he was still upright for like 3 seconds.. should have thrown it away instead of an 8 yard sack.

That was the one... the guy had him by the feet for a second or two, he pump faked (I think?) and then went to the ground... Should have chunked it to the sideline...

What was the deal with Pike getting pulled out in favor of Cantwell at the end? I haven't heard much about that... Just wanted to put Cantwell in that situation?

They probably wanted Cantwell to get more snaps in a hurry up. Pike needs a lot more work, and PS will do him good. Cantwell will need to make the team as the #3

If I'm thinking of the same play, I think he was still in the pocket. He couldn't have thrown it away, as that would have been IG. He might have tried for a receiver, but if they were all covered up, it could have been an Int.

I wasn't impressed with Cantwell either, but sometimes you do have to take a sack.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
