Raleigh Living

You'd be better off and more thrifty in Garner or Clayton...

There are too many yankees or jerks like g5jamz in Raleigh...

(I'm in Clayton btw)

Oh Christ no....

If you want a night like go live in downtown Raleigh. Or go live up off Glenwood near 540.

Those outside towns will make you want to kill yourself

I would honestly start looking at Garner... It is basically South Raleigh, and if you get somewhere near White Oak, you are right at 40...

North Raleigh is probably going to be out of your price range unless it is a bad neighborhood, and the traffic there is hell (Capital Blvd., 540, etc.)...

Downtown would be out of the question for that price range if you are looking to stay in a decent neighborhood...

Boo to Garner.

Go with the Cary area. I don't know where you live now- if it is Charlotte, be prepared for a major disappointment with the downtown in Raleigh.

As far as places to avoid- you know them when you see them. One joke I was told a few months ago that I think rings particularly true:

What is the bad part of Raleigh?

Durham.

Avoid Durham like the plague. Even if you live in the "nicer" parts of Durham, the trash from the rest of Durham will still find its way into your life.

I live in Garner...but it's an easy commute to downtown. Unfortunately I work in RTP and in the Piedmont area...

Avoid Shaw University area.

Avoid around Garner High, Gorman Road, and some parts in southeast Raleigh. There are some newer apartment complexes off of Tryon road (runs parallel to I-40 on the southern I440 segment). Being in downtown, you'll be competing with NC State students trying to get good deals in that price range. My answer...avoid.

Over off of Blue Ridge/Rex Hospital area...close to Olde Raleigh, there are some apartment complexes that are in walking distance to shopping...quick commute downtown...near the RBC center/fairgrounds for events and just outside the immediate NC State area. Typically a lot of yuppies...but still very safe to feel like you can walk around. I have absolutely NO clue on costs.

North Raleigh is pricier. As someone mentioned...avoid Capital Blvd/Mini-city area too.

There are some awesome bar districts in downtown Raleigh...I just don't think your price range will get you anything much, but it's worth looking at. Areas around Cameron Village might work...or the creamery district (bars/restaurants). Avoid east of Wilmington St.

Cary is pricey....and too many damned yankees. Downtown Raleigh is quite nice nowadays...a lot has changed.

Garner is a rent district area...but you can find a couple of decent areas. I'm technically in Raleigh...by address, but really close to Garner. More towards Fuquay area.

As as far as Durham is concerned...NO.

He about got it right. Raleigh is a really nice city with a few bad spots. Durham is a really bad city with a few nice spots.

    • It's actually interesting you mention Richardson because I've seen it suggested here Bryce will have 500 or more rushing yards and 5-10 rushing touchdowns this year. And if big Anthony Richardson can get hurt carrying the rock what's that tell you about the practicality of thinking Bryce won't?
    • I mean, I get why the media and some NFL and Carolina fans are saying that we don't have a real chance, but as many Huddlers should know, we won't know what we really have in this team until probably late September or early October at the earliest. And I'm not trying to be a homer, I'm just looking at things historically. Obviously I'm also looking at Bryce's "palatable" improvement the last half of last season (including being the catalyst for hanging with and nearly beating the Super Bowl participants), and the new additions that we've acquired overall. I'm also looking at the beginnings of a culture change--even if perceptibly subtle--to some degree indeed may take a foothold if things start falling the right way. But, overall, I'm still cognizant of the realization that things could just go south and that perhaps that Bryce could revert and flop, or that D & D (Dan and Dave) are not the answer, but I still am not ready to say "we're far away." Hell we could be close, albeit with growing pains, but even if we're on the course to bring legit in 2026, then guys like Ramsey would be welcome additions this season. That's just my take on it. I don't think we'll know that we're far away until some point in the season. If we can compete in the South...who knows?
    • You guys remember when the narrative on here was that Bryce would be chronically injured in the NFL due to his size and Anthony Richardson would be super durable due to his? You remember when the narrative was that Bryce was physically incapable of throwing a ball further than 20 yards in the NFL? You remember “I’ll stop complaining when he throws for more than 200 yards and looks like an NFL quarterback”? You remember when 60 sacks was his fault and not the offensive line, slow WRs, and terrible scheme? Pepperidge Farm remembers. It will always be something for some people. Whatever insanity they come up with will be quickly dropped to move on to the next thing. Bryce could have an MVP Super Bowl winning season and they would complain that we can’t run the tush push with him. It will always be something.
