Ish Smith Question

Got a question concerning former point guard Ish Smith. I saw he signed a deal with the Rockets, I was wondering if any of you knew his chances of making the team or how he has been playing with them. I saw he had a pretty good summer league so that can only help his chances.

I figure the Rockets turned Aaron Brooks into a pretty legit pg, they could probably do the same with Smith.

I would say Ish has a better than 50-50 shot of making Houston's squad.

The emphasis on the hand-check rule has really helped out speedy PGs with marginal scoring ability- see Rajon Rondo. Ish is a lot like Rondo, except he is smaller and isn't as good of a shooter (and Rondo isn't a great shooter).

Ish wasn't coached properly (if at all) his last few seasons at Wake. If he can develop a decent jump shot and get his FT % up around 70%, he could very well be a 10 year player in the NBA.

      When you look closely at the play it was careless from Melo but bang bang full speed I don’t think it was intentional or dirty or deserving of a foul. Bam’s off balance momentum was already carrying him towards a fall and even if Melo didn’t touch him it may have had the exact same outcome. And honestly I think he did try to sell it more when he felt LaMelo’s hand. Dudes arms flopped back instead of bracing for the fall. Sucks he got hurt but a suspension would be ridiculous and an awful look for the league. Fine and move on

      Sure but it literally would be benching him lol, and it would kill his confidence. He’ll get back in a rhythm, kid just had an all time great rookie season and led the league in 3s, you gotta stick with him as starter. But yeah I’m all for getting some more lineups throughout the game with Coby and Melo   and yeah Miles’ block and Coby and others jumping him in celebration was fuging epic

      I would’ve used the timeout on that inbounds before the turnover and Melo’s late foul but yeah otherwise I can’t blame Lee, the players just didn’t execute as well as they should have, but obviously did enough to get it done
