DeAngelo Wiliams to Pats? (Just an idea)

DeAngelo wouldn't go anywhere for anything less than a first.

And even then, it'd still probably take an extra pick.

AND EVEN THEN..it still likely wouldn't happen.

Blockbuster trades don't happen in the NFL, and, no matter how many Panthers fans wanna carry around that "Grass is Always Greener" mentality, DeAngelo is a Blockbuster player.

No matter what any troll here wants to believe, there's a reason we've been saving so much money for next offseason.

Just to play Devil's advocate here, would compensation greater than a single compensatory third round pick in a following years draft, (2012 in this case), be a better show for DeAngelo Williams than a straight up trade? Meaning, say DeAngelo goes out into the world of free agency because the team allows things to get that far. A team could swoop him up if he likes their offer and the situation feels right (e.g. New England). So, a trade scenario would work best, because there would almost certainly be more to gain in terms of value. Hypothetically, Carolina doesn't have the desire to match or work out what contract numbers the Patriots might have offered themselves. Maybe the Panthers have some way of offering up DeAngelo to another team and signing him to a deal that the trade partner would work out with DeAngelo's agent? We see this type of resolution offered to NFL players who may be on the move. From my perspective, New England would make a lot of sense since they have the three oldest RB's currently active on an NFL roster, (Kevin Faulk, Fred Taylor, and Sammy Morris), all of which are in the final years of their contract. DeAngelo Williams' profile and skillset fits the Pats needs and, highly likely, their evaluations, so a deal could definitely work out. With somewhat of a trade history dating back to the NFL draft and of course the Super Bowl, these two teams have some semblance of familiarity, business-wise, with each other. Going back to the compensation value, I think a first round pick, (the Pats first, not Oaklands), and maybe a 5th in 2011 or a future conditional draft pick would be enough to get a deal done on both sides. Bob Kraft inks DeAngelo to a 5-6 year deal, Carolina, not the common fans support, get assets of a different potential; draft picks. Not always the sexy thing to do, but it would make sense, no?

Also, I don't classify myself as a troll, though you made do so. I am polite, intellectual enough to carry out a solid conversation, and I do well not to impose abruptly or antagonistically as a "troll" might. Your last comment didn't sound too direct but this is just a heads up from my end of the spectrum.

As far as blockbuster goes? Eh, things happen. And barring a few missed games for DeAngelo in 2010, and an unfruitful result record wise for the Panthers, Carolina could be put in the sour position that, you know, maybe this whole situation doesn't scream as loudly on the television set as it should, just because it would involved two of the quietest NFL teams in the New England and Carolina. Sure this trade would make headlines and get its airtime on broadcasts, but with so much going on this offseason, there may be a bunch of distractions in the way to kind of nullify the intensity of said transaction, you know?

For me it's 50/50 for him to go, JR is saving money to rebuild/sign next season and he could very well be kept because in reality all we need is a WR and QB.

Then again he could let him go because we already have a good RB core in stewart and goodson and spend some money else ware, but who knows what the front office is thinking.

only if he doesn't agree w/the next contract,I'd hate to see him and Stewart broken up!If a trade did happen it would thrill Pat fans, but there wouldn't be much for me to get excited!draft pics don't do anything for me,our team has had a lot of busts.I am glad that we have a slew of RBs though,if Stewart or Williams did leave, still have one of them and Goodson and Sutton.Kind of reminds me of the Broncos 10 years ago, they just kept harvesting great RBs!

He will probably be gone after this season, and I hate to think it but It might be for the best. I agree that Stewart as the premier, and Goodson as a versatile back complimenting him would be great. Thats not even taking Sutton into contention. Hes just a solid player. I know DeAngelo is getting into his late 20s but his body isn't that old considering he wasn't run hard his first season and the last two seasons(his only two as a starter) he has split with JStew a good bit. I would HATE to see him in another uniform, but it might be the best.
