Elsewhere in the NFL: Week 2 Review

I'm a Panthers fan, first and foremost, but I am a bigger fan of Football. And man, Sunday was a hell of a day to be a football fan!

First, I'm glad that I was at a sports bar this week, because while the Panthers were shizzing the bed, there were a lot of great games going on. And second, I'm so glad even though I was so discouraged by the Panthers, that I still watched the afternoon games. There were some really great games and storylines going on Sunday.

Random, "Hey, D'joo see that?"s:

  • Holly poo! D'joo see the Redskins Texans game? If you didn't, DVR the recast on the NFL Network. Only in week 2, I think we have a strong contender for game of the year! A thrilling back-and-forth overtime, and almost 1,000 yards of passing! EPIC!

  • D'joo see the Raiders, Rams game? Jason Campbell, the Raiders' multimilion dollar offseason acquisition, got pulled in favor of Bruce Gradkowski, who totally sparked the offense to life! Not only that, but Gradkowski was able to solve the Darrius Heyward-Bey puzzle. Hey-Bey finally had his breakout game; 6 receptions (60% of his career receptions going into the game) for 80 yards! Got to give the coaches credit, they made a bold move that a lot of other coaches wouldn't have the cajones to do.

  • D'joo see that 4th and goal stand Miami pulled off against Minnesota to seal the win?

  • D'joo see the Lions Eagles game? The Lions, even at 0-2 are probably in the thick of contending for the NFC North crown. They look solid. The lost week 1 on a technicality, and the lost against the Eagles by the skin of their teeth after a hard fought game. With Hill at QB, and in a weak divisio, they should be in good shape. Once they start playing division rivals, they will really start to shine.

  • D'joo see the Jets handle the Patriots! Tom Brady, you got outperformed by Mark Sanchez! Haha! Fug you!

Week 2 was a thriller. Even if the Panthers can't get out of their slump, hopefully this will at least be a fun season in the NFL.

I saw both of these games. They were really good.

I remember Schaub getting interviewed at the end of the year last year, about how they BARELY missed the playoffs. He was cool about it, and talked like he knew they were gonna do something special this year. Maybe he did?

The Texans are my Football sanity check this year. They are playing with heart and intensity. By god if the Panther's are gonna flop, then Go Texans! (P.S. 1000 yards passing combined is like something you only see in Madden games)

That Jets game was dull at first. It looked like it was gonna be another Pats stomping of the Jets. I was busy at the time, so I could only watch pieces of the game until 3rd quarter. But when I sat down and started watching it, it was like the football gods descended upon the Jets and found them worthy. From that point on, it was all Jets. They handled and dismantled the Pats. Was a great game :)

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
