After one: 49ers 7, Panthers 3

The trend of blown coverages on defense didn't go away over the bye week, as the Panthers continue to surrender explosive plays.

They trail San Francisco 7-3 after one, in a game that looks kind of familiar despite the changes on offense.

A defense that has been the backbone cracked as it did early against Chicago, yielding a 53-yard pass to TE Vernon Davis that saw S Charles Godfrey chasing helplessly. On the next snap, Davis was wide open for the touchdown, with CB Richard Marshall looking for help over the top that was never there to begin win.

When Matt Moore and the offense took over, they got a field goal out of the deal. They had converted a pair of third downs by passing (no really), but when they got into field goal range, they ran for a loss rather than risk points.

Same as it ever was.
