Just Completed My First NBA Fantasy Draft

Did it on ESPN with some of my boys here at school... So, out of 8 teams, I started picking 7th, then the order inverts the next round, then inverts back to the original order, so I picked 7th, then 2nd, then 7th and so forth. I made some reaches with some rookies in the mid-late rounds, but I think they're gonna have huge years. I was going to get Crash but somebody got to him before me in like the 3rd round. Tell me what you guys think of this roster if you don't mind...

C - Brook Lopez

PF - Zach Randolph

SF - Brandon Roy

SG - Tyreke Evans

PG - Steph Curry

G - Jax

F - Blake Griffin (surprise pick, he was a little ways down the list and this was like the 8th round or so)

UTIL - John Wall (another surprise, or 'reach' considering where he was ordered)

UTIL - Kevin Love (I was gonna take Kaman, I think this was my 2nd to last pick but someone got him right before me, I'm still happy with this one)

Bench - DJ Augustin (lol, with the last pick)

Kevin Love is a great pickup for your 2nd to last pick. He had a great preseason.

Yeah, I posted this over at BP too, but not much feedback...

I was on the fence about that one man, I was going to go with Kaman but someone took him right before my pick and I was kind of worried about it because Love didn't get the burn I thought he deserved last year...

But, then I thought about it and figured the Jefferson trade kind of had a domino effect in the front court and should open up big minutes for him, especially after his performance in the Worlds.

I hope it's not just being naive, but I actually think this is a solid roster top to bottom whereas the other guys were really based off one big guy (LBJ, Kobe, etc.)

I think Love and Griffin are steals. Both played great in preseason.

I'm liking your lineup, I'll piggy back off your thread and post mine as well....

Our draft is 13 rounds....

PG:

Deron Williams

Brandon Jennings

John Wall

SG:

Kobe Bryant

John Salmons

SF:

Rudy Gay

Luol Deng

PF:

Chris Bosh

Blake Griffin

Lamarcus Aldridge

Tyrus Thomas (defensive purposes)

C:

Chris Kaman

Al Jefferson

Probably going to try and move one of the PF's and one of the PG's for another big name guy but I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with....

Yeah D. Williams was my first choice for PG but he was off the board after like the 1st round, but after Steph's first game, I'm not disappointed at all lol. Luckily I had Blake on my roster, b/c Zach Randolph's fat ass went down with an injury and destroyed me night... He was horrible, he went out of the game after like 15 mins and didn't come back.

So far I'm getting beat, and the other guy has Dwight Howard who still hasn't played and Wall is the only guy that hasn't played for me yet.

BTW, after last night, I dropped DJ from my bench and picked up Kevin Martin lol.

    • Also says a successful record for the Panthers would be 8-9 at minimum. Anything less let's us know something isn't clicking. Anything over 8 wins is over achieving
    • Top 5 areas who hold most pressure according to AI:    Bryce Young (QB): As the 2023 No. 1 pick, Young’s under fire to boost his 2024 stats (11 TDs, 10 INTs) despite thin WR talent, or he’ll be labeled a bust faster than a comet crashing into a black hole. His growth is critical, like Burrow’s 2020-21 Bengals leap to the Super Bowl or Carolina’s 2001-03 rise from 1-15 to Super Bowl with Delhomme’s emergence—step up, or you’re just a pint-sized promise lost in the cosmos, oh cosmic quarterback. Dave Canales (Head Coach): Canales must scheme around limited WRs and a porous defense to lift the 5-12 Panthers, or Tepper’s impatience will send him packing like a wayward space probe. His play-calling needs to mirror the Lions’ 2020-22 rebuild under Campbell (3-13 to 12-5) or Carolina’s 2010-13 climb from 2-14 to 12-4—fail, and he’s back to assistant stardust, you playbook prophet. Dan Morgan (GM): Morgan’s tasked with upgrading the WR corps and defense after years of roster gaps, or he’ll be jettisoned like a malfunctioning satellite. Smart acquisitions, like the Bills’ 2018-19 additions for Allen’s playoff push or Carolina’s 2012-15 surge to 15-1, are his lifeline—miss, and he’s a galactic footnote, you roster wrangler. Defense: Allowing an NFL-worst 534 points in 2024, this unit must stop being a galactic sieve or remain the league’s punchline. Turnarounds like the 49ers’ 2018-19 defensive revival to Super Bowl contention or Carolina’s 2012-13 shift to 12-4 show it’s doable—stay leaky, and you’re the universe’s doormat, you generous tacklers. Wide Receivers: With no top-tier talent in 2024, this group—likely led by new faces like Tetairoa McMillan—must step up to give Young viable targets, or they’ll doom the offense like a starless void. Elevating like the Rams’ 2021 WR corps with Kupp for Stafford’s Super Bowl run, or Carolina’s 2002-03 receivers enabling an 11-5 Super Bowl push, is their mission—flop, and you’re catching nothing but shade, you route-running rogues.
