Jimmy Chicken Poo Clausen

I agree wholeheartedly that Clausen has not looked very good this year, and has not shown anything that would lead one to believe that he could be the future.

However, he is a rookie QB starting behind what may be one of the worst OL's to ever play in the NFL. That first half was embarassing at best. So I just find it hard to say that "He will never be any good". He definetly needs a change of scheme.

We rushed for 200 yards. There were plenty of times throughout the game when he had time. Like I said, don't judge his performances on the whole, judge them on individual plays. One play that stands out to me is on a 3rd and 10, he has no pressure, and dumps off. Those are the times he has chances to show something and he doesn't. His arm strength has been exposed. His release has been exposed. His football IQ has been exposed. He literally doesn't have ONE tool you can point too and say he can build off this and be a good QB in the NFL.

Now I was on the road and couldn't watch the game but I followed on nfl.com. I don't wanna judge the game just on stats, but I saw Stewart and Goodson had good rushing days yet Clausen kept getting sacks and throwing incomplete. Like you said, with 200 rushing yards, I find it hard to beleive that our oline was too horrible, but again I didn't see the game so I can't say. How was our running game performing well, yet Clausen still was bad? Did the line break down on passing plays, or was it more on Clausen?

What I am saying is that the kid got ROCKED during the first half.

If an OL allows a D to get to Manning or Brady at the rate the Panthers OL was letting them get to Clausen then it would screw up their timing and decision making. Let alone a rookie who is already gun shy from the beating he has taken all year.

Am I excusing Jimmy's play completely and saying we should let him start next year? No. However to say that he is totally without talent based off of this year is a little hasty in my opinion.

Sometimes they were like wet toilet paper. Other times Clausen was a statue. Other times he ran into the pressure. Other times the line held up well. It varied by play basically. Clausen had enough plays with enough time to make plays and he didn't, bottom line. Our only TD drive was when Clausen didn't throw a pass.

The OL picked it up during the second half, they were WRETCHED in the first half. That is the nicest way to say it.

However, good old Davidson saw that the "zone blocking wide left/right" worked a few times and decided to run it about 12 times in a row so that it was no loger effective. Great game plan.

Thanks. I saw people posting how bad our line was but we rushed for 200 yards so I was a little confused.

So you are hoping he has talent that he just hasn't shown yet or been able to show yet and basing your opinions on that.

I am basing my opinions on him by what I have actually seen from him. Again, I'm not judging his performances because there is nothing to see there. I'm judging plays, and the individual player.

The out to SS is a good example. Throws the ball where it's nearly impossible to catch and even if he did catch it it's impossible to get YAC. He had plenty of time and just threw a terrible ball. I don't know if he just doesn't have the arm to make that throw or if he just doesn't have the accuracy, or if its a combo of both, but it was terrible. Other times he missed wide open guys completely. He doesn't understand down and distance.

In my opinion, he doesn't have any tools that will make him a successful NFL QB. You can hope one day he gets his accuracy fixed so he could be a mini-pennington but I don't see it.

Instead of hoping for change (hopey changey stuff), tell me some tools you have seen from him that will help him in the future.

There were some interesting comments by Lynch about the play calling in this game, and the only 'one route available' to Clausen...and about the 'planned play' to Gary Banridge.

I do not know whether Clausen is the sole problem here, certainly he contributes, but, I think the play calling leaves a bit to be desired.

Either way, everyone on this thread should be pretty happy as the more the Panthers lose, the more Luck will come to save the team.

You are trying to make me "defend" Clausen, and that is not what I am trying or even want to do.

I agree that he has not looked good this year.

What I am saying is that, to pass judgement on his carreer based off of this year is not something I am willing to do. At the start of the season, when he got spot time in the NYG and Tampa games, I thought that he stood strong in the pocket and looked down field until he had to get rid of the ball. When he got the starting nod, he started taking so many hits that he got a little skittish.

There is a very large possiblility that he is going to be a carreer backup at best. However, I don't think that any ROOKIE QB would have success behind this OL. So to say that there is no hope whatsoever for Jimmy, to me, is too soon to call.

Okay and what I am asking you to do is disregard the performances this year. Try and look at the little things. Please just tell me some tools he possesses that will help him reach career backup level in the NFL.
