This Season>2008 (Season Wrap up)

At least we knew we sucked this year. After watching Jake the Fake (jk love you Jake, no homo) lose that playoff game so bad I wanted to cry.

I didn't watch every game or every play this season, not because it was even that painful, just cause our offense was so boring I would be fighting hard not to simply fall asleep.

Things I Learned.

Why Jimmy Clausen fell so far in the 2010 draft.

Lawl. Well thank god we could not successfully trade up to get him, u imagine if we had traded 2011's first round draft pick to get him?

Why This is Concerning.

I'm a Hurney fan and I think the Panthers have been one of the better drafting teams during his era but why was he so eager to trade away draft picks during a year when there was not much expected of the Carolina Panthers? The Armanti Edwards experiment has not even begun but what we know we lost now is the very first draft pick in the 2nd round. Build long term buddy, save your picks, they are like gold. Bellicheck knows...

Most Valuable Player

On the field constantly, often down by double digits and defending a short field I have got to give it up to the entire Defense. Sure they were by no means perfect and had some glaring weaknesses but when u lose your best pass rusher, the leader of your secondary and your weak side linebacker before the season even starts and play with that much heart with that bad an offense you have got to give the squad some props.

Least Valuable Player

Once again I have to be cheap and go with the entire offense. It didn’t matter if we had Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen, or Brian St. Pierre in there. The offensive line was banged up and started slow, we had a slew of rookie receivers, DeAngelo Williams finished on IR for the 2nd season in a row and Steve Smith looked very human.

Biggest Disappointment

The offensive play calling, sure execution was an issue but c’mon man…

My Worst Highlight

Kasey missing that kick to lose against Cleveland

My Best Highlight

The look on John Foxes face after Kasey missed that kick

Breakout Player of the Year

Charles Johnson…nuff said

Player who almost Certainly will Be Gone Next Year

Richard Marshall. Hey there Captain.

Perplexing Trends

Stewarts slow start. At the beginning of the season he looked slower then Phillip Rivers and softer then a Brazilian Hookers ass only to end on a strong note once again. That’s two seasons in a row buddy.

Jordan Gross making the Pro Bowl. I know the Pro Bowl is a bunch of bullshit but there were defiantly some more deserving left tackles this year. I got a feeling people will disagree with this one.

Who I Hope We Draft

Andrew Luck. The only quarterback I have liked more coming in the draft the last five years has been Matt Ryan. Then again I still think Chase Daniels would make a great NFL quarterback so what do I know.

It’s kind of a bullshit wrap up and I’m sure some people can do much better but oh well.

Name me a moment from this year that was anywhere near as enjoyable as the Rosario TD vs SD or running all over the Bucs in the MNF showdown for 1st place?

That season was fun. It ended terribly, but that doesn't erase the fact we were NFC South champions.

2008 highlights:

preseason moments of prophetic j-stew dominance, marshall's TD against philly

dante rosario's epic last second TD against the chargers

j-stews epic performance against chicago and the entire team's rally for the victory

after jake delhomme got illegally slobberknocked

smitty's whirligig TD against the falcons... holy poo i almost blew up the bar when that happened

smitty catching the ball between two deep safeties for a touchdown

shutting out the kansas city chiefs and geriatric moose torching their entire secondary

comeback against the cardinals, smitty's spectacular toeing-of-the-line

ground attack against the lions

deangelo willams' 80-something yard reverse for a TD on the busted play against the raiders

smitty's two deep receptions against the packers that all but sealed the win

MNF basketball game against tampa bay. (you say football game, ronde barber's head provides evidence to the contrary.)

shutting down denver's vaunted passing attack and watching their safeties drop 30 feet deep before the snap to stop double trouble and steve smith

deangelo williams' four touchdowns against the giants

smitty and kasay ruining the day for every saints fan in the season finale

...yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah 2008 was better.

Ok The season was way better but it was all just build up for the most disappointing playoff game in our entire history.

2008 was certainly memorable with some great high points but it was the last hurray before the collapse. The catharsis of Jakes career and John's tenure as our head coach. It was all very emotional.

When I look back on this season I just say, bleh, and am like ok, time for a reset. When I think of 2008, even when its Smitty out Jumping Woodsen, or J-Stew rubbing Ronde into a stain on the turf; both memories come with a tinge of regret over what eventually came to be.

Its all relative I suppose.
