But it does mean these are players the franchise would either like to have back, or don't want to let them go without trading them for something worthwhile.

So for all intents and purposes it means they are some of the "Panthers of 2011"....for now.

I'm happy to see Charley Martin in there too. He really must have left an impression on them last year.

They'd have to make new offers, but I doubt the "who" would change.

So, is Marshall coming back or not? When the season ended I thought he was for sure gone. But there have been reports of him saying he wants to stay and now we place a tender on him.

Prior to the Rivera hire, conventional wisdom was that he was gone.

I'd say it's far less certain now.

Everyone else shown on the Panthers website roster is under contract, albeit some of the unknowns are reserve/future contracts. There are currently 74 players shown on the website roster. +7 (or so, I'm counting Peppers compensatory) draft picks... Looks like a camp roster to me, barring free agency.

I think the RFA tenders are just teams covering the rear ends in case some sort of last best offer/uncapped year goes into effect for 2011 while the fat kids lawyers continue to fight over the pizza. After all, that's the best possible outcome for the lawyers who are doing the actual negotiating. SMH.

It should be noted that the vast majority of contracts expire in 2011, a handful in 2012, 2 or 3 after that. My take? 2011 will be a rebuilding year at specific positions with Rivera given more of a free hand to put his "stamp" on the team in 2012. Not saying we can't be successful in 2011 with the right pieces, just that it won't fully be fully Ron's team until 2012.
