E3

Excited for the four unannounced PS3 titles being teased on Sony's e3 website, of course Project Cafe has me interested with the impressive rumored specs I can't wait to see more of Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, the new Twisted Metal and see the NGP's official specs (and hopefully modest price point) and the launch window games for the handheld. As for M$, I'm excited for a rumored Halo Combat Evolved remake for the tenth anniversary and rumored Fable IV. I will certainly be glued to EA's presser for Battlefield news as I'm dying to get my hands on that game. I also would be stoked (albeit shocked) if e3 brought news of Kingdom Hearts III, Gran Turismo for the NGP, GTAV or Rockstar's Sony exclusive The Agent (seems it has been mostly forgotten from two years ago when it was announced) Final Fantasy vs XIII (this would pretty much make e3 for me if it was in playable form and given a firm release date reiterating it's still a PS exclusive) and if Kojima showed up and debuted a Zone of the Enders 3 trailer I would be excited as hell....

Diablo 3 news or gtfo

I read a rumor awhile ago that it would be at e3 on the show floor but I honestly don't think it will really show until Blizzcon....I'm dying to slay Diablo again!!!

The first glimpses were what 09 E3? Im tired of companies delaying and delaying. You are probably right though, more of the diablo audience at blizzcon than E3.

Pretty much just waiting to see how much money Bethesda is going to get out of me this year. Rage, Prey 2 and I'm expecting some good coverage on Elder Scrolls.

I think nintendo is the obvious frontrunner at being best of show just based on the new console and microsoft I feel could still pull off something big to maybe steal their thunder. I think Sony has to do something pretty big but I don't know what. I'm not really interested in the handhelds so I'm hoping it's not all on that...I mean it can't be the big surprise considering how much is already known.

I think Kojima might have something up his sleeve to go along with the Zone of the Enders and MGS collections coming soon and the 25th anniversary of MGS next year.

I'm interested in seeing the new nintendo console and I'd like to hear a price, I think thats going to be the biggest obstacle. I expect to see a Mario, Zelda or Metroid game up and running.

If we do hear about a new GTA, I'm curious to see if a company pays for a timed exclusive.

I definitely agree with price being the biggest obstacle with project cafe (beem, wiiHD, wii2 or whatever the hell they're calling it). Nintendo has never been the company willing to take a loss on sales of their console in order to give the hardcore gamer what they want. If the rumored specs are accurate (including the touchscreen display built into the controller (essentially making the controller it's own handheld) it could easily be in the seven to eight hundred dollar range to produce. If Nintendo is stupid enough to price a console at that point then they will be killing it before it even is released. Unless the rumored specs are WAY off then Nintendo has to be willing to take a pretty significant loss on console sales for several years in order to get Cafe off to the right start. They already will catch a ton of criticism for scrapping the Wii so early so they can't make it worse on themselves by making the price point on the next gen system too high. Thankfully for Nintendo they made an insane amount of money off the "soccer mom" console that they can afford to take losses on Cafe until the hardware is less expensive to produce.....it will be an interesting reveal for sure, I almost expect them to show off the console and games, make no mention what so ever of price with a release window of Holiday '12....

I plan to buy the Nintendo Beem Cafe HD on launch. Hopefully they have some games to display that are well into development for it. A crazy new Mario would be epic.

I also wanna see FF13 Versus but it's not said to be at the show :( Maybe they'll surprise us.

I just wanna be surprised really. That's what's great about E3.

That's never an indication of whether or not something will be at the show. Last year David Jaffe (Twisted Metal creator) swore up and down he was nowhere near e3....

    • Sorta related.  I just looked up a stat:  Success rates for NFL draft's second rounders.  I was surprised that it is 49%.  The success rate for first rounders is 58%.   Here success does not mean those that did not bust, it means that roughly half of the players selected in the second round become full-time starters at some point in their careers.  Busts do that too.  However, considering the fact that a first round talent is worth up to 1800 points (first overall pick) more than the first pick of the second round and as low as 350 points (last pick in first round) higher than the last pick in round 2, it seems there could be cases in which it would be to your advantage to trade out of round 1 and draft two or three second rounders for the value.  Of course, the elite players are likely to be gone, and some positions overwhelmingly suck after round 1 (traditionally, like QB or LT, for example), but if you need to find starters at positions like DT, G, LB, S, C, TE, RB, etc, there could be a time when you trade back for more starters.  I was surprised that the margin between rounds 1 and 2 was only 9%.    While I realize that some of you sofa scholars are thinking, "Well duh?  Trading back gives you more players." as you wipe the Cheetos off your shirt.  Not the point.  The point is you have to consider the draft, the needs (and the number of them), and you need to scout the second and third rounds like you do the first, the cap, and the long-term impact.  If you can find 2 players with a 49% chance of becoming a starter, are you better off than drafting one player who has a 58% chance in the long term? So if I traded away my first rounder for two second rounders (a trade most teams would make) regularly, when I got 10 second rounders (by trading 5 first rounders), 5 would be starters.  If I did not trade and kept my 5 first rounders, 3 would be starters.  Furthermore, their rookie contracts would be much cheaper than the 5 first rounders.
    • These are the three deep throw attempts that Will Levis made in week 12. His first one is a beauty; Levis and Westbrook-Ikhine gets the safety to bite on a deep dig only to go over the top for the score. His second throw is another beauty: a crosser to Calvin Ridley reminiscent of Bryce to XL (though Ridley has noticeably more separation on his route). His third and final deep shot was an incompletion from his own endzone on 3rd & 14 with pressure coming down on him (to me, this seems like a solid throw).   Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-02.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-01.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-01.mp4 Levis took half of the deep shots that Young did. The differences are: Ridley had much better separation than XL, which is why his deep crosser turned into a 63yd play since he was able to scamper for another 15+ after the catch. Westbrook-Ikhine holds on to his TD pass. Bryce had to throw one away to preserve time for a field goal. Bryce had two more throws that were incomplete due to the WR Are we really holding the three WR errors and clock management decision against Bryce in order to say that Will was better throwing deep in week 12? That's not passing the eye test nor is it confirmed by the data.
