An In-depth Sidney Rice and Wide Receiver Thread

Recommended Posts

what the f**k.. are you stupid?

just so you know, I have provided many examples of teams only having short receivers. also, we have tall receivers, further making your point IRRELEVANT.

sure, the Pats have nothing to do with the Panthers, just like your points having nothing to do with accuracy or relevancy.

so what exactly is your point?

You must think tall receivers are 6'7. The average height for a NFL wide out is 6 foot making a tall receiver 6'2. So I guess two examples is a lot and can you argue without cursing or does it come naturally?

btw, has his hip condition been confirmed as degenerative? Just heard he had surgery, didn't really look into it any. pretty pooty for him if it is.

I remember Buck Kincaid saying it was after the start of 2011 and there's a whole lot of smoke. He hasn't come out and said "Hey guys I have an arthritic hip!"

He also received the dreaded "Best shape of his life" quote which is typically reserved for 35 year old NBA centers.

The player rep for free agent Sidney Rice tweeted Monday that his client is "in the best shape health-wise, ever."

Agent Drew Rosenhaus also tweeted that Rice "destroyed" him in four 300-yard shuttle runs. The condition of Rice's hip has been an issue for a year, which he had surgically repaired in late August. Rice is expected to pursue a lucrative contract as one of the top wide receivers available in free agency.

The Panthers gave Dan Morgan a contract extension long after it was clear he couldn't stay on the field.

It did not work out well.

It's perfectly analogous to this hypothetical Sidney Rice situation, even more egregious since there are healthier, arguably better options on the market. At least Morgan was the best ILB that year.

I see what you are saying but I think you keep rice for 3 or 4 years then move on because by then LaFell and Gettis will be studs and Pilares should be coming into his own.

CarolinaPanthers8789 you are not even attempting to address the central concern which completely invalidates your opinion. You continue to dance around the issue that Rice is a major injury concern, is not the best wide receiver on the market, and is not the healthiest. You refuse to address the possible ramifications of spending a large amount of money on an unreliable player. You've brought up terrible comparisons and unrelated tangents that you also refuse to address. The basis for most of your opinions are facts which happen to be demonstrably wrong more often than not.

CarolinaPanthers8789 yes or no do you understand that in the context of this discussion, the EASILY DEMONSTRABLE FACT that Rice has an incredibly checkered injury history trumps whatever physical characteristics you can find on wikipedia?

He has had injury problems that is true and he is not the healthiest player on the market that is also true but let me use our own Jonathan Stewart and Jeff Otah as a comparison. They both get injured a lot, but when they are healthy they are one of the best at their position.

You understand?

Once again so does Jonathan Stewart. When using an example from our own team though I guess Physical Characteristics trump Checkered Injury History.

Afterall J-Stew is supposed to be in the best shape of his life this offseason as well.
