Fowler - Bobcats Turn Down 9th & 19th for Top 5 Pick

theres a reason the bobcats are the bobcats

According to Wiki:

"In June 2003, the new team was named the Bobcats. The bobcat, an expert at survival according to the North Carolina Wildlife Commission, is athletic, fierce and an indigenous predator to the Carolinas. Charlotte, already being home to the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League, made the cat-related name a natural choice for the area's new basketball team. There is also speculation as to whether or not the "Bob" in Bobcats is a further reference to Robert "Bob" Johnson, the original owner of the team."

Tough decision. It's a seemingly weak draft so they either take a chance on just the #5 pick or they keep their picks and give themselves two chances at improving the team.

I would have made the trade. the NBA draft even in deep years usually doesn't have much at #19, picks like that are a throwaway for bad teams. They can't draft a complimentary player as there's not much to compliment on the Bobcats.

I'd take Burks and Faried over the #4 or #5 at this point.

Marshon Brooks easily won the matchup and had his way with Alec Burks today.

In this draft, nine might be as good as five, and you might be able to flip 19 for a better pick next year. It might be nice to move the picks and get Kemba or somebody, but maybe they are waiting until draft day to make the move.

Good Point

    • They have never even had back to back winning season even with Cam so what do you expect? It's all about the winning. The Ravens have had winning seasons the last 6 of 7 years and actually won a SB. Seattle has won 11 of their last 12 seasons and a SB. Interesting enough neither have had 6 losing seasons in a row. I'm not sure it will ever be the loudest crowd but you are also forgetting the environment JR fed for years up to the Cam years. Tepper is terrible and done little past a VR panther but JR threw a very bland game day experience. I was in Tampa last year and they made the entire game entertaining for the fans even if the teams were not good most of the game. Blaming the fans for a poor product when it's never been good enough long enough is just BS.
    • As expected and glad to hear it's official. I think he's been more responsible for our sustained success the last 6 years than Waddell was. Both have been important, don't get me wrong. But I'd rather let Don walk like we did than have Tulsky take a GM job elsewhere, which he absolutely would've gotten eventually (has already had several interviews and league wide interest). I think Justin Williams could backfill some of the Waddell duties on the GM side. Team President will probably be a new hire, or other promotion from within -- Waddell was definitely good at that stuff but all that stuff doesn't directly impact the on ice product.
    • The grass is not always greener and losing the Panthers Franchise to another city is a big no thank you to me. First the fan base and others wanted a new owner. We got one and he turned out to be worse (up to this point).  Now the fan base and others want the team to leave so we can either have no NFL franchise in Charlotte with the hope of get a new one some time. Again no thank you.     Whenever I travel, go to another city or area I pay all kinds of travel and tourism taxes for their stadiums, arenas and venues. So let everyone visiting and traveling through Charlotte pay those same taxes for ours and make a deal for the stadium upgrades.
