Justin Shugg and Jay Harrison sign

Recommended Posts

Still hadn't seen this posted yet, and I thought for sure someone would have posted it by now, but I finally have enough time to do it; so I thought I would.

On Jay Harrison

Defenseman Jay Harrison agreed today (about a week ago) to a two-year, $1.4 million deal with the Canes. First signed to a one-year deal in 2009, then a second last offseason, both of which paid him the league minimum, Harrison will earn a decently-sized raise to $650,000 in 2011-12 and $750,000 in 2012-13. Harrison's re-signing only leaves a few pieces of business remaining on the Canes' blue line for next season, with an expected deal to be negotiated later this summer with RFA Derek Joslin and whoever the Canes get to replace Joni Pitkanen, who is looking increasingly unlikely to sign with the Canes when he becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1
.

On Justin Shugg

According to a report on TSN, the Carolina Hurricanes have signed last year's fourth round draft pick, Justin Shugg, to an entry level contract. CapGeek.com is reporting his NHL cap hit to be $616,667 per year, over three years.

Shugg has had a tremendous junior career and played for the Memorial Cup the past three seasons, winning it twice with Windsor and losing this past season in the final game while playing for Mississauga. He had a career high 41 goals and 87 points in 66 games last season. In the last three years, the forward has scored 97 goals and 199 points in 201 games.
