The NBA as a league is screwed unless the players decide to be nice and take a pay cut of around 500 million, or the league and team owners decide that cutting 10 teams is in the best interest of the sport if the players want to make more money for less then any other professional sport.

That is all, so it isn't happening. At least any time soon it isn't.

I've honestly come to the conclusion that there is a 80% (probably higher) chance there isn't a season.

So have I, I actually wouldn't be surprised if off season stuff for next year is in jeopardy here. They are really far apart and the players will have to either take a hard cap and a 200-300 million pay cut or just plain out lower the soft cap limits and take a pay cut of around 500 - 750 million.

I think that's what it's going to take to get the NBA back up and running with longevity in mind. NBA players make way too damn much money for what they do, so I'm not really heartbroken over them losing 500 million a season at all.

What the hell are you talking about?

What is keeping a 3rd party of investors(would take a ton of money i know) from making a new Basketball association, and attempting to take all the talent? The players do not get paid in the event of a lockout right? If not that would essentially void any contract said player had with a team, freeing them up to play in another league. That was the player association could wash their hands of the NBA and move on.

Keep in mind this is a very very rough idea, i havent spent a ton of time thinking it through.

Depends on when the players start and stop getting paid by the teams and how the NBAPA and the NBA itself have that set up. Also depends on a players contract as well.

For instance if player A started getting paid in October after the first season and decided to join this other league, then he would be breaching his contract. The team's obligation to pay him hasn't started so they wouldn't be breaching the contract.

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
