Letting Jake go was a wash at best. Nothing good came of it. He could have gone 2-14 last year too. I concede that most people were calling for his head to roll for quite a while, but Moore obviously isn't the answer either. Whether we agree about Jake or not though, I believe, is rather inconsequential because my point is that management has been making some poor decisions.

What was ludicrous was starting Jake Delhomme 2 years past due over a better player in Matt Moore. Then proceeding to sacrifice the only QB who proved he could do anything in this offense by drafting an overhyped QB, cutting valuable veterans, signing no FA's, and playing said QB one week after a concussion.

Everything about Kasay I agree with though. You must be his son.

I'm definitely not Kasays son. But I have been a die hard Panther Fan since my father and I loaded onto a bus with a rag-tag group of Carolina Panther football nuts and headed to Canton, Ohio to cheer on our team to a win over Jacksonville in 1995.

Thanks for giving the superbowl to the pats, Kasey! No statue for you!

End of Line.

I'm not going to call you a jerk for your post, because I kind of agree with you. Yes, was a classy guy. Yes, he was a great guy in the community. But I will always remember him blowing the biggest kick of his life in the biggest game of his career. Sorry that still bothers me to this day. A blown FG I can forgive. But not kicking the ball out of bounds.

What a bonehead, classless move to cut John Kasay. And all because the kickoff is moving up five yards... really? This is how an organization treats a respected player who for 16 years has been the hallmark of everything good that his team supposedly represents? Were there no other options than to sign a kicker who, in stats and opinions, is inferior to the one you are cutting? Did Panther management explore ANY other options before making this colossal mistake? Keeping Lloyd for one. Is it not worth one third or fourth string spot on the roster to keep your teams most beloved player, especially when he is still at the top of his game? There's also the option of searching for a punter who can perform kickoffs, as I think most fans would agree that Baker is far more dispensable than John Kasay.

This is worse than what they did to Jake Delhomme. Even then when Jake was playing poorly, although with the receiving corps the team had, much of his performance was excusable, it seemed obvious to many that getting rid of the QB that led us to the Superbowl in favor of Matt Moore was ludicrous. And in the end no one benefited from that blunder. Now there's rumor that they might want him back, when he shouldn't have been gone in the first place. Boneheads.

At the very least the top brass have lost my respect and at best the team maintains status quo on the field at the loss of their most respected player. All because of 5 yards, sad.

So the Panthers need to waste another roster spot for a "kickoff specialist" this year, because Kasey doesn't know when to hang it up?

I believe that when the time comes, John Kasay will know that he's ready to hang it up. He's still one of the best kickers in the league. He went what 25 of 29 last season and he hit a 54 or 55 yarder? Those aren't the statistics of someone who's ready to hang it up. Also, I simply wouldn't take Mare over Kasay period.

It's not a waste of a roster spot if it works.

    • I think you have to factor in that we're still not an attractive proposition for Head Coaches. You're not getting the cream of the crop if you fire Canales a year after winning the NFC South, especially considering the situation he walked into.
    • Yeah, I was about to say I hope he's doing okay health-wise because he's not looking good in that pic.
    • Honestly, I dont  think he should be on the hot seat yet. A bad start to next year, then yes. Despite our mistakes on play calling this past season, we played better than anticipated overall. Bryce showed improvement and maturity (although still not nowhere close to our expectations). Better record and 2-15 to 5-12 to 8-9. Despite what we feel the stats dont lie we are improving by 3 wins a year. Could 11-6 be our expectation. That's a high bar but at the rate we are going, thats what its looking like. We all want to see a 5-12 to a 13-4 record but we are methodically moving up. Success doesnt happen overnight (well in most cases).  IMO we are struggling mostly on the defensive end. LB and edge are our biggest weakness. I see Bryce making improvements (even though I was a Bryce hater) next year. Biggest concern is LT on offense. How to fix this? We need a big name edge or to trade up and get a big name edge or LB and pick up one in FA and draft one. Also if in the 3rd we can pick up a TE. Dont know if Sanders is the answer or Tremble (even though I love Trembles blocking and power after the catch). If these two can get their footwork together they would be great. Maybe all they need is a better TE coach. And if Brooks can stay healthy and be the back we thought he could be, man that would be great
