Panthers need to re-sign Hurney

I'm actually with ya on this one.

The way I see it though is we either get compensation for him or he plays for us in another contract year, and we all know what happens to players in contract years.

Seems like a win-win for the Panthers

seems being the operative word. There is no way to define the negatives that come along with having a player "forced" to play for you. When you figure in the status of said player being a stud or supposed stud within the organization and a veteran of the league that command srespect off of what he "has done" it gets even worse.

Potentially.

Its either half full or half empty for both sides in this discussion but regardless of point of view the same amount of kool-aid is in the panther beer stein.

I think we tagged Peppers to keep Peppers, not to trade him.

I believe we are doing what the Titans did with Haynesworth last season, they tagged him, he came around to signing the contract and stayed one more year, then they let him walk the year after and now the Redskins have him.

Reasons to keep Peppers:

-We have no other definite starter at DE, drafting a DE that can start right away is a big -if-, the ones we have right now are better off in rotation.

-Although If Pep gets 2 first round picks for us, or 1 first round pick and something else, whatever, there's a higher chance we may not use that/those pick(s) on DE, especially since the paycut in BOTH kemo and lewis' contracts along with no other DT capable of starting being on the team. DT outweighs DE.

-If Peppers is franchised, that doesn't mean he has to be a leader. Everyone already knows how he feels, he won't have that C on his uni next season. Players are the ones who vote for it.

-Last season, Peppers is the only one who game-in-and-game-out demanded protection on his side, even if he wasn't consistently getting pressure. No one else on our line gets that type of "respect" from opponents. Without him, Rookies/Backups and aging Vets would have to work harder for it.

- Hilee Taylor is not the answer.

- We need him to segue, one more season to develop players. New Dline coach, new Dcoordinator. New Linebackers Coach, new Secondary Coach, you think it would be wise to not have a seasoned all-pro vet on the team?

Reasons to Ditch Peppers:

- He's being a Twat.

- 2 First round picks or trade after he signs for something else.

- He's done, he doesn't wanna be here, he doesn't wanna play here, and he doesn't give his 100%.

Reasons to let Peppers go without compensation:

- Cap. Space. Ability to bring in other Vets. One person can't be so valuable on a team, can they? Franchise tag means we'll have to make a lot of hard decisions on keeping people and picking the ones to let go.

I think he walks next year though. We need him here to develop his replacement. It wouldn't be smart to let him go before we have someone we can replace him with.

Do I think Hurney is the best GM on the planet? No, not really. However, he's done a pretty damn good job since he's been here, and he's learning from his mistakes. (ex. big FA signings are a no no)

You guys that want him gone... you do realize that it's actually not easy to find a GM that will make you competitive every year right? Hurney has done a pretty good job of that.

    • He isn’t but looking at what those guys are getting paid, paying him what he’s making now wouldn’t have been terrible, they should have and still should be looking at pairing some guys with brown to form a pretty dominant d line
    • The Bryce hate is nearly laughable.  He looked like garbage the first two games, but has really, really shown improvement and growth.  People who know football are taking notice.  Will Bryce ever be Arron Rodgers, Farvre, Manning or any other hotshot gunslinger?  No, but I think he is a smart football player who has survived a lot more than most other QB's would have after 2.5 years.  So long as this injury doesn't linger I think you will see legitimate growth over the next two years, with a big leap coming next season. Reich and Brown not working together, Duce causing trouble behind the scenes.  Starting WR's of Mingo and Chark.  No legitimate scheme for the OL.  Fitterer's general incompetence. An owner who was desperate for attention.  How did Zac Wilson, Mariota, Winston, Tribuski, Rosen, Lawarence, Fields, Jones, Pickett, and Richardson fair after 2.5 years?  We see what happens when the Texans have not given Stroud the support. The 2018 draft had great talent, they just needed to mature, hell we wasted two of the top three drafted that year.  Outside of Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, or Drake Maye, I'm not sure I really would want any other 1st round QB drafted in the past 10 years? RELAX......  Bryce is our guy as we grow as a team.  The only other option I currently see is maybe a buy low draft pick on Drew Allar if he falls to the third round or lower. Bryce is going to be extended.  He won't get Prescott money which would benefit our team going forward.  A mid range extension like Darnold or Baker got may be just the thing this team needs to keep growing.
    • Even if he had just a two week window of incredible play, it would open up people eyes to what the offense would look like with a different QB than what we've been fielding for the last couple years. No one is saying White should or could be a long term solution, just a different perspective on what the offense could look like, and if it hypothetically did happen it would put major pressure on the situation that they've been half-assing
