Panthers still looking to deal Lucas

The Panthers and Lions had a deal worked out that would have sent CB Ken Lucas to Detroit, but it fell through after the Lions learned that Lucas was unwilling to restructure his contract, which includes a sizable 2009 cap hit of $9.1 million. Although that trade didn’t come to fruition, sources in Carolina say the Panthers are still looking to deal Lucas, who has started 12 games or more in each of the past five seasons. After watching the Eagles send CB Lito Sheppard to the Jets for draft picks, we hear the Panthers believe they will be able to get something of value in return for Lucas. It could be some time before a deal gets done, however, as potentially interested teams likely will wait until the market for free-agent corners thins before agreeing to give up a draft pick for the 30-year-old Lucas. If Lucas maintains that he will not restructure his deal, there may not be a team willing to absorb his large contract, and, in the end, Carolina could be forced to cut him.

At first I thought this post was actually going to point out threads I missed, but I clicked on them all and none of them remotely touches what I just posted.

Yeah everyone knows about the Lucas to Detroit trade, but it wasn't rumored or confirmed that he was still being shopped. Or that Lucas didn't decline the trade because he didn't want to be a Lion, but instead didn't want to reconstruct his contract.

Either way I'm interested in hearing what teams might want to trade for Lucas and for how much.

Lucas apparently doesn't have any upcoming roster bonus so it costs us nothing except cap space to keep him. IMO if we can't trade him, we will keep him until all other NFC S teams have signed their FA CB needs or if there is a FA which we can't hold off any longer on signing.

Nah it's from profootballweekly.

I didn't find a thread like this cause when I previewed that other one it just said n/a.

So I guess when can have some speculation over why the trade to Detriot didn't go through, and what reimbursement the team can possibly get for Lucas.

    • If we don't extend him, there is no way another team would offer him more than a one year $10m prove it deal lol.
    • He isn’t but looking at what those guys are getting paid, paying him what he’s making now wouldn’t have been terrible, they should have and still should be looking at pairing some guys with brown to form a pretty dominant d line
    • The Bryce hate is nearly laughable.  He looked like garbage the first two games, but has really, really shown improvement and growth.  People who know football are taking notice.  Will Bryce ever be Arron Rodgers, Farvre, Manning or any other hotshot gunslinger?  No, but I think he is a smart football player who has survived a lot more than most other QB's would have after 2.5 years.  So long as this injury doesn't linger I think you will see legitimate growth over the next two years, with a big leap coming next season. Reich and Brown not working together, Duce causing trouble behind the scenes.  Starting WR's of Mingo and Chark.  No legitimate scheme for the OL.  Fitterer's general incompetence. An owner who was desperate for attention.  How did Zac Wilson, Mariota, Winston, Tribuski, Rosen, Lawarence, Fields, Jones, Pickett, and Richardson fair after 2.5 years?  We see what happens when the Texans have not given Stroud the support. The 2018 draft had great talent, they just needed to mature, hell we wasted two of the top three drafted that year.  Outside of Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, or Drake Maye, I'm not sure I really would want any other 1st round QB drafted in the past 10 years? RELAX......  Bryce is our guy as we grow as a team.  The only other option I currently see is maybe a buy low draft pick on Drew Allar if he falls to the third round or lower. Bryce is going to be extended.  He won't get Prescott money which would benefit our team going forward.  A mid range extension like Darnold or Baker got may be just the thing this team needs to keep growing.
