Narcissistic, ra-ra fake leader, ninth grade offense...a lot of these comments went beyond criticism and sounded like true hatred. They can all line up and suck Cam nutz.

Auburn fan here.

You guys are now seeing what was very obvious to all of us Auburn fans. There are very few players that have "star" quality. Newton is one of them. By star quality, I mean that he improves under pressure and enjoys being in the limelight. Newton was under more pressure and received more scrutiny last year than any player in the history of college football, and his performance never suffered a bit.

Also, the notion that his teammates hate him is completely LOL. He was the leader of Auburn's team the moment he stepped on campus, and it appears that he immediately is falling into that same role at Carolina. Newton dropped into Lebron mode a little too often during interviews, but he's hardly the first college superstar to make that mistake.

Anyone who believes that race was not a factor in the media's perception of Newton should compare the media's reaction to The Golden Calf of Bristol v. Newton. The media absolutely swung off of The Golden Calf of Bristol's nutsack every time he smiled, got fired up, etc. Newton's display of the same characteristics invariably was characterized as cockiness and a lack of respect for his opponents. It was and is ridiculous.
