Yankees will regret letting the Rays into the playoffs

Had they let Boston in, I can't really see any team in the AL being to match up with them. MAYBE Detroit, but their pitching isn't close to Tampa's. I don't know how many of you watched the Rays/Rangers game tonight, but Matt Moore(lol) was fuging UNREAL. 2 hitter in his 2nd career start @ Texas against a VERY good Rangers offense?

Reminds me of the 2010 Giants. Fantastic pitching, hot team that snuck into the playoffs....

I mean don't get me wrong the Yankees are probably the best team in the playoffs as it stands now, but the Rays are no joke and in the postseason, it's all about pitching. The Rays pitching >>>>>>>>>>>> Yankees pitching.

Rays in the WS would be classic. Need to get the Phils out as well, no buying Championships.

lol @ buying championships.

"Homegrown" Phillies:

Victorino

Howard

Utley

Hamels

Rollins

Ruiz

Stutes

Madson

etc...

Lee and Polanco were originally acquired by trading away homegrown talent and when they hit free agency, they took less money to come back to the Phillies.

Halladay put his own trade package together to come to the Phillies and Pence waved his no trade clause to come to the Phillies. Both were acquired trading homegrown talent.

Phillies payroll on free agents? Less than $43M.The other $130 has been spent on homegrown players or players acquired using homegrown talent.

They are not buying a championship but rewarding their homegrown talent and using their farm system to build a great team. .

Wouldn't say the Philles "bought" any championships. They're definitely where they're at right now because of guys they signed in free agency/traded for(go ahead and imagine Philly without Lee/Haladay, not sure they even make the playoffs), but tons of teams trade for guys/sign big free agents and flop. Phillies are smart with their money unlike teams like the Red Sox.

Now if we want to talk about their sketchy(putting it nicely) relationship with the Astros, that's a whole different story. How they got Lidge/Oswalt/Pence for fuging PENNIES is some bullshit. Ed Wade is pretty much an employee for the Phillies.

Pfffftttt.

Halladay 3yr/60mil, Lee 5yr/120mil, Oswalt 5yr/73mil with a 16mil option for 2012.

Bought and paid for, plain and simple.

Also, Victorino was drafted by the Dodgers and played for the Padres before going to Philly, not HG. Well maybe some HGH bit that's another story.

Well Victorino was drafted by the Phillies in that Rule 5 draft thing and played 30 games or so with the Padres. Phillies developed him into what he is today. I consider that homegrown. HGH? I never heard him linked to it but I am sure you can link 80% of all MLB players (and NFL) to HGH or another PED.

    • As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.
    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
