I have a hard time "blaming" Davidson for that game..that was my feeling after the game as well. After I opened this thread, I went back and looked at the gamelog (I REFUSE to watch that thing again at this point though I have it on DVD) and I can't find anything that screams DAVIDSON SUX from looking at the drive logs. To me, it appears that after that first drive, AZ completely sold out on the run and they stopped it. The Cats passed a TON on first down after their second drive of the game was stuffed. I think they ran once on first down after that second drive. And their runs weren't doing well, getting stuffed for no gain, very minimal gain or negative yards on all but about 2 runs after that first drive. IMO, that game was basically Jake havign a craptacular day (75%) and the defense allowing things to be too easy for the Cards (25%), especially the first drive.

That's the way I see it too. The Cards were determined to stop our running game. They focused on that and dared Jake to beat them. Unfortunately, on that night he wasn't up to the task. An OC can't do much when their QB is having that kind of day.

Fireball is right, and I put this awhile ago

Gee why did we stop running and try throwing.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playbyplay?gameId=290110029

lets see

0 yards rush

8 yards rush

0 yards rush

punt

Jake fumble

pass

2 yard run

pass

1 yard run

interception

pass

-2 yard run

pass

punt

Yup all indications point to we should have run the ball more, ya know, if we had 10 plays to get a first down.

People were blinded by the first drive, and apparently didn't pay much real attention after that.

Nothing was really working, mainly because Jake was throwing interceptions vs 8 men in the box, ya know, the time where the passing game is supposed to shine.

Except keep his team in the game by relying on his running game. Did you see how far Baltimore was able to go? They had a rookie QB and didn't have the Panthers rushing attack at their disposal. The Panthers didn't have Baltimore's defense, but they also put their own defense in a lot of bad spots with those interceptions.

I'm not absolving Jake here. Jake had...let's be honest...one of if not THE worst postseason games of ANY quarterback in the last 10 years. Maybe ever. But he's not calling the plays. Remember the 12-9 overtime win at Tampa Bay in 2003? Jake had a 14 rating that day. You CAN overcome a quarterback's bad day. You just have to recognize it early and adjust.

Yes you can sometimes do that Meat, but when they did that in 2003 they had a way better defense and had some big plays on ST IIRC. For this team over the latter half of the season, if the O wasn't getting it done, they weren't winning a thing.

Well do you think that maybe after the second interception, they could have adjusted the passing game, at least, to dump off passes? I felt sorry for Jake out there. Arizona was dialed in to whatever we were doing, and there were no adjustments.

The Cats didn't have much of a short passing game at all most of the year really. I do agree that that may have helped (and it sure worked nicely when they were in prevent at the end of the game IIRC), but perhaps not using it in that game at that point was a function of not having much of it in their arsenal. I would DEFINITELY like to see them use that more this year...especially screens.

Put in my vote

Hey, if they had you, they could just blame the defense 100% like you did after the SD loss in week 17. :P:D

    • Losing Necas would be worse than a majority of Canes fans think.  When he's on he controls the puck with speed and gains zone entry so well, he is still young.  He should be considered part of our core.
    • Raym is like bozeman, based on what I read--lacks the lateral quickness he needs--however, he is supposed to be a beast / bully when he engages. I was watching Popo a bit, and he is a perfect PS developmental 3-4 DE. Coker should make the roster because if we put him on the PS, another team will take him.
