What moves (u would make) to improve team?

Okay, we are at the bye week & have seen our team perform. I think most of us are surprised by the effetiveness of our offense & completely in awe of Cam. Injuries have really hurt our D, but in all, we have a lot to build on.

What would you do before the start of the next season to improve this team? Can be: cuts, FA signings, draft, coaching changes, everything is game.

I would start Lafell over Naanee.

OFFENSE

And I'd start sprinkling in Armanti Edwards into the offense, perhaps in the slot. There's no point in keeping him around next year if he can't play... The catch 22 here, is that he needs to see some playing time.

Add depth to the O-line through FA this year.

Re-sign Shockey

Perhaps draft a bonefide WR (this is a want and not a priority this year IMO)

DEFENSE

Draft draft draft!!

DT, CB(s), LB, maybe even a DE for depth.

Definitely need to add a vet guy, younger preferably.

OVERALL

It was pretty obvious that this year, we did almost everything to help out the O and Cam Newtons recipe for success.

I think that our defense was lacking, but afte being decimated by injuries it became painfully obvious that we need to look long and hard at this side of the ball during the offseason.

You can only do so much at a time, and I believe that the FO thought this defense would bs good enough to compete. Quite simply injuries FUGGED us. It's part of the game though.

It's already been said by multiple people including myself, that we can now appeal to FA's due to Cam and how close we have been. I think that will give big-name to middle-tier guys the incentive to think to themselves..

"If I go there, maybe I can push them over the top" I think that works to our advantage.

Lastly, I think it's imperative to pick up a solid back up at QB. We can Ill afford to wind up like The Colts. DA can fill this role maybe til next year, so add him to the "re-sign" category.

All in all, I would not be surprised in the least if we are SuperBowl favorites going into next year, if we can put the "right pieces" in the right places.

We as a fanbase (and the players) are going to have to get used to playing as the favorites... Because the days of us being the under dogs are done after this season.

As we all have been saying... The Future is bright, let's go get it!!!

What's up with all the homerism over Armanti? He hasn't shown me much of anything to warrant making an attempt at "sprinkling" him in anywhere. I barely have confidence he's not going to muff a punt.

I think TruCatz has it right. We gave up a lot for Armanti (a freakin 2nd rounder...don't get me started!), so I think he needs to be put in the fire & see if he is gold or ore.

I never liked the pick & I hate seeing him returning punts, but we have to see what we have & move on...it may be wasting a roster spot for a game-changer...but we have to see what he has first.

You obviously didn't watch The Steelers game then.

Every second of it televised in my area.

Learning what not to do is sometimes more important, but clock management is one of Rivera's biggest shortcomings. He needs to unlearn what Turner has taught him and watch broadcast games to see that part of the game.

Then u should have noted that NE scored with 4 min left on the clock, but Bellicek didn't challenge that the player got in. Eventually they scored with a little over 1 min left.

Had BB challenged the first call, they could have kicked it deep and let the Defense play for a 3 and out. Instead of the pathetic onside attempt.

Belichick is the best clock manager I can think of, but nobody is perfect I suppose. Did you bring all that from memory or had to google it? I watch every game televised from every weekend and they just run together after a few hours. Anyway the fact is Rivera's clock management skills are extremely suspect and I think he can learn a thing or two by watching Belichick's work. You are free to recommend a better clock manager, but the fact is Turner is one of the worse I know of and that is who Rivera has learned from recently. When you analyze all of Belichick's results I think they speak for themselves.

1) I don't care how many FA's we have to bring in, or how many picks we use, but we have to get better play at the DT position.

2) Get a solid starter at OLB.

3) Solidify #2 WR. Naanee hurts us more than helps us.

4) Select depth players with the experience and the desire to play on ST.

No googling was required. I watched the game and was quite frankly in dis-belief because he's usually all over it.

As far as clock management goes... If you're a HC in the NFL and you haven't figured it out yet, then u pretty much suck in my book. Because I'm a Panthers fan, and my homer glasses stay in I give RR the benefit of the doubt. He does need to be better at this aspect. We can all only hope that He has learned from his bone headed mistakes and won't make them again.

Now let's get back on track and talk about players, because the coaching staff Is going to stay in place for the most part.

    • If we pay Bryce like a franchise QB we're completely and utterly buttfuged.
    • In my view, the realistic expectation for this team to compete will start 2027.  At that time, I think we could be looking at the following (this is HIGHLY speculative):   QB:  You know, Bryce.  I am not a fan, but they don't ask me.  But there is reason for hope--and here it is.  Bryce will be entering his prime.  Since we are likely to pay him, there will be changes that I include throughout this exercise--I realistically speculate on what they are going to do with Bryce and then I realistically speculate on what means in terms of the cap and other positions. Bryce HAS IMPROVED.  The idea is that if you give him more weapons and protection, that will continue.  His career:   At this rate, if his growth continues, by 2027 we should expect nearly 30 TDs and about 12 Interceptions and a Rating of about 98.  His completion percentage should settle at 65-66% or so.  If that happens, you can win with it. The following stats demonstrate how the Panthers will be able to afford it (and re-sign Ickey) My guess is they will require about $60m per year. This is why rookies who can play are important.  It also helps us see the blueprint.  You may disagree, but this is the cruel realities of the salary cap. Robert Hunt:  Cut post June 1 and save $19m.  Who do you replace him with?  Ickey. Tershawn Wharton:  Cutting him saves nearly $15m.  We should all hope to see Aaron Hall (UDFA) make the roster and play well.  Regardless, this is a position we would likely have to address in the next draft. Trevin Moehrig:  Cutting Moehrig as the starting SS saves this team $16.5m.   Ransom will be on year 3 of a cheap rookie deal and should be more than ready to take the reins.  their styles are similar.  Furthermore, FS Wheatley (R, 4th round) will be starting. Taylor Moton:  So much depends on his knee, but I have an idea that he can play another 3 years.  extending him could save the team about $5m per year.  Cutting him outright would save the team about $21m. In the most drastic situation, we have to cut Moton and the other three players mentioned.   We would need (in all likelihood) a starting DT and RT.  It is possible that the DE would be addressed, but Wharton's production (so far) could be equaled by a rookie.  Look for a cut free agent and a 2027 draft pick here.  If you cut Moton, you save $21m, and that would be the only big hole to fill.  Having Ickey at RG gives you some depth at T, and Ickey could be the guy.  T could be pick in the 2027 draft (first round), fwiw.  It saves you $21m while costing you $5m, for example. We get younger, creating a core of Freeling, Hecht, and the RT first rounder in 2027) along with Ekownu (second contract in the $15m range, and Lewis, whose contract would be in the $16m range if not extended.)  The OL cuts (Hunt, Moton) would save $40m.  The OL would get younger and still solid with veterans at G.   By cutting Wharton (no brainer if his play stays the same) and Moehrig (good player--but we have Ransom on a rookie contract who would not be that much of a drop off--if any) in addition to Hunt and Moton, we would save over $70m in cap room. We would be able to give Bryce bag  and we would have enough to re-sign Ickey (if the knee is not too risky) to a Guard contract (probably at a discount, coming off that injury).  Furthermore, we could add a RT in the draft (or a RG if Ickey moves to RT) and that would be the only large hole to fill. Correct my logic if you see issues-- On defense, in addition to the aforementioned, Scott ($2m contract) is out, replaced by a 4th round rookie contract. CB Jackson's contract ($7.8m) expires and he is (possibly) replaced by a rookie contract.  At Edge, patrick Jones II's $10m contract expires and he is likely a reserve, and his role is absorbed by Phillips, Scourton, Princely, and possible an UDFA like Isaiah Smith or a 2027 draft pick.   These productive developmental players over the past 2 drafts will pay huge dividends.  On paper, I see the team getting much younger and possibly better while cutting nearly $100m and reallocating that money to get more production.
    • If everything played out and that last thing happened, I probably just quit.
