Whats the word on the other CB from LSU? I don't watch college football, so just want to know why everyone is talking about Claiborne instead of this guy.

From watching games this year...Mathieu is an explosive player. Big hitter for his size, very good returner, causes fumbles...has 13 right now as a true soph. The NCAA record for career forced fumbles is 14. He is great blizting out of the nickel spot as well. That being said..he plays very emotional at times and is average in coverage. Claiborne is bigger with just as good of ball skills, if not better. He is a true corner, great in coverage.

IMO, Claiborne probably transfers to the NFL as a corner...mathieu will probably be a special teams beast both returning and punt/kick coverage..but his lack of coverage skills won't cut it in the NFL. That being said..he still has two years to develop his coverage skills.

He is undersized for a CB. And he is not draft eligible this season, thus no one talking about him as an option. Claiborne is the best CB this draft has to offer.. he has elite size and speed, and great cover skills.

Yeah Mathieu isn't that great in one-on-one coverage. That is the main reason why he is behind his teammate Morris Claiborne. He does know how to rip the ball.

And yes, he is only a Sophomore.

I agree. He didn't want to come out last year because of a late injury in the season. Then Muschamp came and kicked him off the team and now no one pays too much attention to him at North Alabama. He was a beast in the SEC with better WRs last year.

He may have the best cover skills, but not elite size. I still like Claiborne's upside due to his size. No one can chance taking Jenkins that high in the draft. He is projected somewhere lower 1st round.

Dbs are taught to attack the ball.

It does help because you must located the football while in coverage.no he is no Mo Claiborne type corner (big lockdown cb) but his coverage skills are good enough.he is always around the ball and makes things happen when he gets close to it.

Example asmougha is great at covering a guy but he cannot attack a ball in zone coverage because he is not a ball hawk.

Still don't think captain is a liability in coverage? It was obvious that teams were picking on him.

I agree, now, that Munny is better suited for the nickel spot. So much of this will come down to Butler and Hogan. I'd be happy with Fitz or Claiborne, but it may not be as big of a need come April. I still think OLB is our biggest single need on D.

Mathieu skills are perfect for safety with his ball hawk skills. That way he'd wouldn't have to worry about man coverage.

But a huge limitation is his size.

I agree about OLB, but also, it's easier to find good talent at the OLB position in later rounds, than it is good CBs. I'd love Zach Brown.. but not at the draft spot it would take to get him. If he just happens to be there in the 2nd round, I would cream myself.

Thanks for all the info guys. It seems like a lot of you guys think that he may be better suited for safety with his ball hawking skills, but since he's a sophmore, I guess there is no reason to talk about him. Yea, I'm kinda wanting a CB in this years draft because good ol' Capt. Munnerlyn is getting killed as our second CB this year. Hopefully Hogan pans out for the better.
