Did we do enough to woo Mario Williams?

We definitely won't sign him, but why would the Texans want to keep him?

His replacement this season, Connor Barwin, is a third year player, who they could re-sign long term for less than half the price it would take to keep Mario Williams. Oh, and he also has 10.5 sacks...

I think if we get Mario, he would be starting over Hardy. Unless Hardy wanted stay, I wouldn't feel right letting him be a back-up. I see us trading Hardy to a contender, where he can start.

DE is one of the strongest areas on this defense - really the strongest.

If you think Hardy is good enough to start for a contender, why do you need to invest so heavily in Mario Williams? Keep in mind that we don't have infinite money/cap space.

It doesn't make sense for us to take one of our strongest positions and spend everything we have making it better, when we've got gigantic weaknesses at CB, questions at DT, LB, and safety... I mean basically DE is the only position on the defense I am comfortable with through and through.

    • That makes me wonder, how many starting tackles in the NFL and/or elite tackles have short arms? I feel like there’s probably lots of tackles that end up being drafted in later rounds because they had short arms or didn’t have the physical tools.     also why not draft a tackle in the later rounds that we could move to guard or center if they fail, instead of drafting a center? If we draft a center we know they aren’t going to play tackle but if you draft a tackle they could end up playing any of the 3 positions, look at BC for example. It feels like it’s a better decision to draft a tackle in later rounds than a center.
    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
