WR to consider for next year

Keep in mind Rivera has gone out of his way in recent weeks to mention how excited he is to have Gettis back next year.

Also keep in mind we did seek out some higher quality names this year like Santana Moss even before Gettis got hurt, so it's possible we still search out a receiver from that cloth (older, still good, not overpriced)

THAT said, I also think Rivera was part of the crowd at that time that so delusionally (not a word) thought Smitty was washed up-and he obviously knows better now.

Just some things to keep in mind.

He also spent the offseason singing Otah's praises. That worked out well

would people shut the hell up about wideouts already? we don't need any. smitty is elite. lafell is good. gettis was better than lafell last season and will be back. we have olsen and possibly shockey returning. dwill and jstew are capable coming out of the backfield.

focus on the OL, DTs, and secondary PLEASE. also special teams aces.

The only way I could see a WR is if Blackmon somehow fell or maybe Dwight Jones at the right time in the draft. Otherwise spend that money on the o-line and defense. I think it's probable we get Shockey re-signed so TE isn't to great a need just yet but that could all change if Shockey retires/goes elsewhere(which both seem highly unlikely).

Where the hell does this come from? You are claiming that Rivera regarded Steve Smith as washed up....what made you come to that conclusion? Link to something?

I expect us to get at least 1 WR. We were lucky that most of the injuries happened on the defensive side of the ball.

God forbid but if Steve Smith goes down (next year) Gettis will be #1 & Lafell #2 with Naanee filling in... not that great imo unless Lafell improves greatly in the offseason.

1 Additional guy is enough. Is it a priority? No, but I'm pretty sure its on the list of needs in the draft/FA. (Would be awesome if that guy could return punts too. ;))

    • You keep mentioning the impact on the salary cap, but that's literally not the point with all these 2nd Rounders, it's all about precedent and it being a slippery slope that would lead to more fully guaranteed contracts for veterans. That's what the teams are making sure this doesn't get to, because yes, you're right, the guarantees for a 2nd rounder won't have significant cap implications if the player doesn't work out.  But you give that fully guaranteed 3-4 year contract to a FA who then shits the bed in year 1 and never regains the form that got them the contract, then yes, it's going to screw up your cap management and won't be a rounding error. And you can say it's a big leap to go from guaranteeing a 2nd round pick's contract to a big FA signing, but it's really not.  Once teams start giving them out, it's only going to keep growing and be insisted upon by agents in other situations and once the ball starts rolling down the hill, it's going to be impossible to stop it's momentum. Also, the only reason a 2nd rounder's contract would be a rounding error, is explicitly because contracts aren't guaranteed and teams can finagle the cap hits with various tactics.  Once contracts become more and more guaranteed, that won't be as easy to do, if even possible at all, and those individual rounding errors become serious problems in totality.
    • Yep!  Jake wanted to stay. It’s been reported a lot that he did. Tulsky waited too long to give him that contract.
    • He's still unsigned, due to injury I think. He should be able to play this year, but I think teams are just waiting for more clarity before signing him.
