What's a good credit union in Charlotte?

I'm sick and tired of my bank. (BB&T)

I have been trying to get a home equity loan out of them for 2 months! The lady NEVER returns my phone calls.

I'm about to settle my Workers Comp case will bring me some pretty good pocket change. (OK, more than pocket change, unless you are Jed Clampett!)

I want to put that into a credit union, along with my business account.

I would really like USAA (Military Credit Union) but they don't have any branches here. I would have to mail any checks I get, from my start up business, to them.

I used to have an IBM Coastal Federal Credit Union account, but I'm pretty sure they pulled out of Charlotte and are only open in Raleigh.

Any suggestions??

You don't necessarily have to be a customer of whatever bank or credit union you get the loan from. Why not try something like Lending tree, where you can get a number of different offers? You might get a better interest rate that way.

You can scan checks to deposit to USAA.

I love USAA, but I don't and wouldn't use them as my primary financial institution.

google "credit unions charlotte nc" and there are 10 listed. I have no idea about any of them, other than SECU.

Don't know if they have membership restrictions still for SECU of North Carolina, but do understand that if you're looking for great rates in mortgages (I know you said home equity)...that credit unions are sometimes not the best avenue to do it. They are very conservative lenders and aren't as willing to take risks.

I use Charlotte Metro Credit Union for all my banking needs, I am so glad I dropped Bank of America and other major banking institutions. It means something to recognize you and not have to ask you for 50 forms of ID before even speaking to you
