Amtrak

I have flown all my business life to various cities but NEVER on a train. I have some extra time before a conference and looked in to AMTRAK (Raleigh to Orlando). A bit over 12 hours one way. I think it may be neat to give this a try.

Anyone had much exp. with the rails? Any tips?

My cousin road a train back from Orlando to Raleigh because their car died and they were broke college douche bags. It took them almost 48 hours because the engine wasn't running correctly.

Just an FYI - If they changed the name to CAMtrak, I'd ride that beast for every sales trip.

LOL...That would be like 10 miles an hour.

Seriously, that's what happened. The engine could only go 8-10 mph. Amtrak sent them free ticket vouchers and an apology. They never sent a new locomotive to replace the malfunctioning one.

LMAO. You would think they would keep a spare.

Well, most of the Amtrak stock is owned by the US Government and it's board members are appointed by the president of the United States, so inefficiency should not be suprising. :D

I LOVE Amtrak!

Relaxing, no hassle, relatively inexpensive, comfortable, and rewarding. I take it whenever I can. Just wish there were more routes and more convenient running times!

They do indeed serve alcohol in the cafe car. Their coffee is amazing for what it is.

I've ridden on five different trains this year alone. Each one has been on time and a great experience. You get to see a part of america that you can't see on the roads or in an airplane. Plus, the staffs are very friendly and love their jobs unlike those assholes on most airlines.

Also, there's just something about sitting by the window and hearing that horn while watching the scenery roll by that just makes you feel good about yourself.

If you have the time, ride the train. It is 10x better than flying.

Did a Amtrak trip back in 97 from Greensboro to Seattle. First part of the trip was crowded from Greensboro to DC. From DC to Seattle was great. Took about 4 days but you meet interesting people and they had a lounge car to serve diners and also to lookout from. Best part was going into Harper Ferry you felt like you was back in time. But I also liked going over the Rockies as it was snowing. Would love to do it again.

    • The lack of discipline has seriously been our downfall the last month. Seems like we just went off course this last month and Lee won't address it. You can't just live and die by the 3 when you can attack the paint and at worst draw a foul
    • Great season regardless of what happens. From starting out 4-14 to ending 44-38 is incredible progress and future is bright from here. I do think we can beat the Heat and then win on the road against either Orlando or Philly assuming Embiid doesn’t miraculously return sooner. But if not, a higher draft pick is nice too
    • I know a DT that's asking for a trade: 🤔 maybe a home discount can be worked out. Dan Morgan could create up to $80 million in space through restructures of stars like Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn, or Taylor Moton. They could also include players like Tershawn Wharton ($18.6M cap hit) in the trade to balance the salaries. Carolina Receives: DT  Dexter Lawrence II New York Receives: 2026 2nd Round Pick (No. 51 Overall): A premium Day 2 selection that fits the for  Lawrence  after his 0.5-sack season in 2025. WR  Xavier Legette : A young, high-upside receiver who provides the playmaking depth HC John Harbaugh needs for his offense. 2026 4th Round Pick: Immediate mid-round value. 2027 4th Round Pick (via MIN): Future capital acquired in the  Adam Thielen  trade.  ----- Stone Forsythe* (another young player as a potential trade option)provides immediate offensive line retooling for HC John Harbaugh.    John Harbaugh's history in Baltimore proves he values draft volume over individual superstars.    Just my 2cents
