Kirkpatrick Vs. Gilmore

While Kirkpatrick may be a tad more physical, if we trade down, I'll take Gilmore. Way more upside, better speed, seems to blanket recievers better, better character/work ethic and Gilmore is money on CB blitzes. As someone who watched Gilmore's entire career at South Carolina, my only knock on him is that he's been known to miss a few tackles here and there due to not wrapping up the ball carrier completely. I dunno, neither are worth a top 10 pick in my opinion, they both seem to fit somewhere between 15 - 25 in my mock. Here are few highlights from both.

How do you figure that Hogan is already our #2 when he's barely played? Rivera seems to be a show me coach and I think that our #2 CB is up for grabs!

like I said, call it a hunch.. when the season comes around, we'll see if that hunch was correct. From what I've seen, he's got above average coverage skills. Obviously more time is needed to confirm that. If true and because Rivera is a "show me coach", then I don't foresee a rookie CB taking over, no matter his name.

Hogan is no different than a rookie, "no matter his name". So bringing a rookie in will only be competition for the spot. Hogan don't have it locked up but if he wins it great. All I want is a solid #2.

Hogan is essentially a rookie...

We are not talking about a multi year starter here. An elite - good college corner could easily come in an win the starting nod.

I'm not so sure..

Hogan actually isn't a rookie.. but okay, he has more time in the league.. And you're right, bringing in another corner will bring in competition and in a pass first league I'm not against drafting another rookie..

I think Hogan will lock up the #2 spot...

    • The OL has certainly been better than the trainwreck it was three or four years ago. As far as competitiveness let's apply some realism and clarity here. Quite a bit of the competitiveness in 2025 came from the defensive side of the ball which gave up the most points in league history the year before and was one of the bottom 5 units in terms of salary cap allocation for 2025 while the OL was top 3. We had the 26th passing offense last year. And if not for a herculean couple of games from Rico Dowdle we don't back our way into the division title or make the playoffs because we went 4-6 in our final ten games including being swept by the Saints who were starting a rookie 2nd round pick most of us mercilessly mocked when they selected him. In conclusion yes we've seen a difference. The question now is will the investment pay off the way we want. But the only way that happens is if we field a top 15 offense. If we can't even crack the top 20 then there need to be some very warm seats across the board. And I would hope just about anyone here should agree with that.
    • These Spurs are lowkey loaded.  If healthy, they could win it all this year (#2 in the West right now). I still think we’ve gotta keep Kalk on Wemby; he’s not getting completely dominated like every other NBA center.
    • Am I the only one who doesn't understand this fan bases infatuation with adding a high end TE? Especially when we have some bigger bodies in T-Mac and Coker who can slide into the slot at times and provide the big dependable target over the middle that most teams use their TE for. I mean, sure, it would be nice to have one of those elite TE's, but I feel like that's a position your better off going cheap with a committee who each bring something different to the table while spending our cap room on the more important positions. I like the potential we saw from Evans this year, Sanders could be a best if he can stay healthy, and Tremble has improved as well.  Just feels like spending high draft picks or cap space on other needs and more important positions is a better use of our resources than splashing on a TE in the draft or FA. Are those guys on the level of the Bowers or McBride's of the world?  Of course not, but we also are paying a fraction of the cost on our TE room than they are, and we're able to use that money for other needs.
