A panthers fan who would seriously argue that Steve Smith isn't the best receiver in the league in this place is just likes-to-argue-guy as far as I'm concerned. Even if you know or believe it's not true, how does it benefit you to say it ain't so?

Take any receiver named in this thread, and Smitty's career is just as distinguished---if not more---than any of them.

Steve Smith isn't the best WR in the league anymore...that is just reality. How does it benefit anyone to just randomly claim player x is the best when he isn't?

Saying a player is the best in the league when you know they aren't isn't standing behind the team, it's just lying. Standing behind the team is showing them support and cheering for them no matter what, has nothing to do with lying about them. If you think lying about players makes you a better fan you are just an idiot.

For the people saying Smith isn't the best player in the league, your argument would make more sense if Smith wasn't ranked in the top 5 in receiving yards last season. With only 300 yards away from the "best receiver ever made" Calvin Johnson and the new rules in today's league placing a lot of importance on the WR position, is it really that big of a stretch to call Steve Smith the best player in the NFL? It's not like this thread was meant to be taken literally, why can't you guys just roll with it? What started as a simple player appreciation thread turned into a worthless shitpile of hate.

Man, there is no reason to go overboard to make a point. Unless your aim is to provoke an attitude and not a response.

Gross is good, and has the Pro Bowls and All Pro bids to show for it. However, he is not electrifying or flashy, and tends to stay in the background. As most OL are want to do. So most people tend to overlook him. Which is a testament to his ability that people almost forget he is around.

That said, Smitty provides highlight reel play, which is what catches the eye. He is smallish, and was told he would fail. Again, most fans can relate to him. It is a combination of things that add up to Smitty and his admireres. If you cannot see what the rest of us see, I almost feel bad for you. The joy we homers feel when Smitty is in the discussion is damm near palpable. Sorry people have to miss out on the experience.

We started last year on the bottom rung of the ladder. We took a rung or two during the year learning and growing. By the start of next year, we will be at the top of that ladder. And that my friends, is going to be a great view.
