We weren't going to get past Philadelphia regardless.

Seriously, do people remember how sad Carolina looked? Our defense was horrific, we couldn't stop the run or the pass. And Delhomme was completely unreliable. Even in the event we got past Philadelphia, we probably would have had the worst Super Bowl loss in history against Pittsburgh.

I'm not saying I'm glad we didn't win. But I wasn't nearly as optimistic going into that game as I was into the Philadelphia game. I didn't think we had any chance against Warner/Fitzgerald with Ken Lucas playing like the worst defensive player in the league.

But the 8-8 Arizona Cardinals happen to? And were a TD away from winning the Superbowl?

You aren't giving a 12-4 team being led by the surgically repaired elbow of Jake Delhomme enough credit. Yeah there were some holes like every team has, but we WERE a better team than Arizona, they just played harder. They played harder than the Eagles too.

A 12-4 team that barely got past Oakland, Greenbay, New Orleans, etc. that year. I'm giving them credit. But their defense looked horrific down the stretch. Giants ran all down our throat. Tampa, New Orleans, Greenbay all passed all over us. Delhomme was just throwing up lobs to Smith.

What reason do I have to believe Delhomme, who showed his true colors in that playoff game and further, was going to get us past a top five defense in Philadelphia? Even without our defensive woes, I had zero faith in Delhomme. Had nothing to do with who played harder. Has to do with our quarterback for me.

    • When we have everyone playing like they should, we can win the Cup. That has been the biggest problem when we get to the playoffs, but this year seems to be fixed mostly. We could have had multiple if we had done this in the past.
    • Here we go Bryce Stan’s you should love this. Hell it may be one of you.  It has every cliche excuse and then some.  Unintentionally hilarious my limit was reached when he said Bryce had it hard because four play callers.
    • Luke goes in to the specifics of what he looked to accomplish in joint practices.  Basically they may work with someone on the opposing team to stress something they feel is a weakness in their own game in a different way that can be done with someone they are familiar with. That they can have predetermined stresses but since neither wants to get injured and it has absolutely no bearing on anything there is not the level of concern that would be in a preseason game.  He would also even chat with opposing OC.   It seems like an interesting nuance among the vets and savy pros.
