At this point, it honestly wouldn't shock me if Gettis didn't even make the team. Granted, that's probably a very long shot, but Rivera has never seemingly been a huge fan of his and with Murphy, Pilares, Adams, Armanti, and Ajreytuauxxxsadfchz getting all the reps they could decide to pull an Otah with him.

Regardless, though, it sure as hell seems like Murphy has the 3rd WR spot all but locked up.

can anyone show me a link where Rivera "never seemingly been a huge fan of his", because as I remember, Rivera thought quite the opposite before Gettis' knee injury and had him running with first string over LaFell...

I think it's time to dispell this myth once again... I believe it was LaFell that Rivera wasn't too high on last year in TC.

yeah, this one is a head scratcher to me.

i remember him talking at one point how no one was really standing out as a WR2 but beyond that i don't know anything else. i'd be interested in seeing said quotes myself.

oh...and any chemistry issues with cam, i don't think there will be any. gettis is a good natural receiver. if he can make himself available and catch what is thrown at him, the chemistry will develop. it's not like if he doesn't have that chemistry with cam before the season begins it's all over for him. there's a full season for those two to see the field together, full of practices and everything. and then there's like next year and stuff...i'm just not worried about it. it will form.

I don't understand the hate for Gettis. He broke out in his rookie season whilst taking throws from the likes of Matt "Underachiever" Moore, teh Jimmez, and St. Pierre. He got hurt, it happens. Ask TD. Give the guy a fu*king chance.

those fans are neurotic and must take issue with someone, or else be bored to death.. if only we could get them to twiddle their thumbs instead of typing on a keyboard.. good thing they stick out like a sore thumb.

Thing is, coach seems to feel the same way. Gettis is really good and could develop into a monster. He got an unfortunate bite from the injury bug, it happens. Coach should know that.

I don't think the coach feels the same way. If I understand the context of what you're saying..

Yeah, routes are routes but does Gettis have the verbiage of the playbook down and know his assignmnets. I'm sure that he's bee reading the playbook but until he gets on the field; run the correct routes, block who and when he's suppose to, he's behind the 8 ball so to speak, better yet Murphy...

I'm sure he knows where he's supposed to line up, his routes, and grasp the verbiage, but I do think chemistry is the primary concern with him missing time. He should build that pretty quick though, I doubt it takes him more than a few games to get up to speed.

yeah, i'm not completely understanding that one as well.

i haven't seen any indication that rivera isn't giving gettis a chance. i wouldn't read picking up murphy as proof of anything other than wanting to give cam more targets. once gettis gets healthy i fully expect him to be right back in the mix of things.

Supposedly Gettis has been in Coach's doghouse since the beginning of training camp last year.

key word "supposedly"... like I mentioned earlier, I believe that's a completely unfounded statement made by certain people who consistently fail at "calling it as they see it".. LaFell, IIRC, was the receiver Rivera wasn't too high on.

I thought one of the more recent Panthers pressers had Rivera on there saying LaFell had pretty much locked up the 2 and is proving it everyday. I may have heard him wrong, but im pretty sure he's happy with what he has in LaFell right now.

If Im RR Id do the same thing with Gettis just to buy some time to give the other guys reps. I would be conserving Gettis health, making sure he is 100%, and also getting a chance to kick the tires on the other guys. Then when I decide which of those guys can compete for a game day jersey, Id throw Gettis back in there. . . right around time for some pre-season bitch slapping.

Barring a set back I dont think theres anyway Gettis will be sitting by preseason game 1. He's had a year to digest the playbook, study film, work on his hands, and get stronger. There's way too much potential sitting there doing nothing.

    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh.
    • That is literally what I am talking about. Those were 53 man cuts. Not at the beginning of camp.  I would say the odds of Barno being back are extremely thin.
