You are welcome to that opinion, but let me present to you why you might want to reconsider.

1. Luck has yet to prove what he can do in a real NFL game. Cam has. Granted Luck has looked good in the preseason, but at this point he's still unproven.

2. Cam has a full year of NFL experience. That alone puts us one year closer to the superbowl in my opinion.

3. Cam has a will and desire to be great that is still unseen with Luck. Do you think Cam would have stayed for his senior year? No, because Cam lives, sleeps, and breaths football.

4. Cam will be the superstar Charlotte and the Panthers need. History has shown one transcendent player plus championships can put a team and town on the map. People gave Cam crap about wanting to be an entertainer and icon, but we need some of that superstar shine in Charlotte.

5. Cam has the potential to be a transformatative athlete. The level of debate and vitriol Cam faced coming out of college is an indication to me the NFL still has not fully embraced black QBs. Cam has a chance to change that, and on some levels already has. Just look at how RGIII was treated compared to Cam.

In short, Cam > Luck.

With the exception of a couple none of that is relevant, and 5 makes my head want to explode. Cam wasn't treated poorly because he's black. He was treated poorly because he played in Juco, stole laptops at Florida/basically got kicked off the team and potentially was paid to play at Auburn with the knock being he ran a simplistic offense. So in summary, there were character concerns (which were alleviated), work ethic concerns (alleviated) and intelligence concerns (which were also alleviated).

None of that has to do with being black. Just because he's black doesn't mean criticism isn't fair.

While I am sure the Cam Newton factor helped RGIII from a play evaluation standpoint, no one in their right mind would claim RGIII isn't a totally stand up kid. Thats not something you could say about Newton coming out of college. There's a reason the Panthers vetted him like a bloody vice presidential nominee.
