Can't defend Cam no more

Luck and RGIII are real QBs, Newton isn't...perhaps he will be one day.

So both Luck and Griffin will have better rookie seasons than Newton?

Luck is only hitting 54.2% of his throws for a QB rating of 77.1. Newton, even with his bad year to date is 58.8% percent/80.9 rating. Rookie season he was 60% percent/84.5.

Griffin has been better to date (69.1%/101 rating) but is already getting concussions from trying to scramble/run because he's tiny. You can already tell he won't be able to have the type of rush game Newton will because he'll break in half at some point.

Newton had a bad game. It happens. We're running a poo offense. Newton has run a pro set with very good results before (rookie season). I think that has something to do with the regression. Either way, wanting to bench/trade/sit him goes beyond idiotic into "mild retardation" territory.

It's funny how many of the "BUSSSTTTTTTTTTTTT" 2011 draft assholes/pissed off Bama/Gamecock homers are resurfacing lately.

Who cares about rookie seasons???

The stat says that a certain amount of pass attempts is not completed. It DOESN'T tell you whether it's Luck's fault or not.

Luck does not have a better o-line or a feared running play. He has only got Wayne.

Griffin has been better to date (69.1%/101 rating) but is already getting concussions from trying to scramble/run because he's tiny. You can already tell he won't be able to have the type of rush game Newton will because he'll break in half at some point.

Who cares about QB-rush??? Do you really wanna tell me that a Brady, Brees or Manning (pick one) relies on scrambles that much?

Furthermore, you can't tell anything about how injury-prone a player is 'til he had several injuries of the same type...

Nobody cares about the rookie season at all. And we arent talking about ONE crappy game...I count three already.

Whoever you are referring to...

Seattle has a very good defense, right up there with San Francisco, and that's in spite of having a poor offense. Prior to the Seattle game, Cam had a 64% completion rate, 10 points higher than Luck and 4 points better than his record setting rookie year.

As others have said, I'm embarrassed by much of what I've read in this thread by people who call themselves Panther fans. One of my favorites was the comment that Cam was beaten by a 5th round rookie. Football is a team game. It's not 1 on 1 hoops. But apparently that is too difficult for some to grasp.

I admit I personally don't care for Cam Newton, but those calling for his job and those saying he is the greatest QB ever are equally misguided I believe.

Cam is a second year QB and without a doubt from what I have seen from him he is going through a sophomore slump. Not for those who don't know what a sophomore slump it, let me explain it. A sophomore slump is not because Cam has regressed as a player. Its because Cam now has over a year and 5 games of tape for defensive coordinates to scout. These DC making their living looking at tape where Cam has done poorly, Tendencies or on a play the results just where negative. They use this game film to attack the young QB. Over the next year Cam will be tested week in and week out to overcome these issues and with a good coaching and hard work he will.

All QB experience even Matt Ryan, and so will Luck, to what degree is determined by how cerebral the QB is and how well the coaches are able to coach him out of these issues. Going through this is important and Cam will only get better with hard work and time, and only the future can tell us if he will.

The colts are a much worst team than the Panthers and if you don't believe check out their record a year ago, the reason Luck has done so well is he has been groomed to be a QB since birth. His father was an NFL QB himself. So Luck is already a very seasoned player who has been given a tons of special coaching most players won't.

Cam still deserves time and patience, but people need to quit blaming the damn team only Cam is their leader. The offense is based around Cam. There is a reason this team doesn't run a more traditional offense and its not because the other skill players are not able to do it.

The coaches are coaching an offense tailored made for Cams skill set and will continue until next year I think, hopefully for Panther fans Cam builds from this year and is able to run a more traditional offense next year.

P.S

Some of the Cam fans and none Panther fans remind me of Atlanta's MV7 fans from years ago, not good.

Which other season of Luck/Griffin am I supposed to compare? Their third? Cam's fourth?

The stat says that a certain amount of pass attempts is not completed. It DOESN'T tell you whether it's Luck's fault or not.

Right. Our beastly OLine. 1 spot above Indy in run blocking and like 18 or 19 below them in pass pro. We are better at running. Wayne is a better WR than Smith at this point in their careers and it's not like we're overflowing with talent after Smith.

Who cares about QB-rush??? Do you really wanna tell me that a Brady, Brees or Manning (pick one) relies on scrambles that much?

Being able to run !== not being able to throw. I'm going to put out a guess that you were one of those posters who disappeared for most of last season while Newton was playing very well. He ran the pro-set absolutely fine his rookie season. And yeah, I can tell you there's a concern about Griffin taking shots because the exact same fuging thing happened to him against Texas Tech his previous year - scramble, shot to the head, concussion. I'm not even bashing on Griffin here.. I love that guy and most of my family are Skins fans.. but he's going to have to learn to avoid taking hits even more than Newton because he's just not built to absorb them.

Nobody cares about the rookie season at all. And we arent talking about ONE crappy game...I count three already.

Three crappy games, two good games and two crushing mistakes (fumble and low throw). Also most of the previous season of pretty good play. But lets throw that out and focus just on the Giants/Seahawks games because lol.

Whoever you are referring to...

Yeah, what an outlandish thing for me to say.

    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
