2013 WR Draft Prospects

I know this is early but as of now, it looks as if we are headed for another Top 10 pick in next years draft. WR is arguably one of our top needs going into next season. Our offense is inept, Smitty will be 34 years old next season and contemplating retirement, Lafell looks like a career 2nd WR.. top flight WRs are harder to find later in drafts than most positions.

#1 - Keenan Allen from Cal looks to be the best prospect. 6'3' 210lbs. He's from Greensboro, NC.

- Reminds me of Dez Bryant without the off-field issues. Very athletic. Fast, and doesn't go down on first contact. LOVES football.

#2 - Justin Hunter from Tenn is a 6'4" 200lbs prospect. Poor mans AJ Green.

- Reminds me of a faster AJ Green but not as good ball skills. All-state in Track. Tore ACL in 2011.

#3 - Robert Woods from USC, 6'1' 190lbs. I don't care how good he is. Don't take another USC WR.

- Reminds me of Reggie Wayne. Best hands in the NCAA, precise route runner, fast, great athletiscm. Unfortunately, he looks like a great prospect. I hate that he is from USC.

#4 - Terrence WIlliams from Baylor, 6'3' 205lbs. Great NFL body. This is the first year he will be the #1 receiving option.. previous years, RGIII to Kendall Wright was the deadly duo. Has excellent straight line speed, however he doesn't show the same speed on short and intermediate routes. His hands are average at best.. his weakness is drops. Does a good job at shielding defenders away while the ball is in the air. Adequate blocker.. but prefers to cut block his man rather than stant him up. He will be a 24 year old rookie.

#5 - Da'Rick Rogers from Tenn Tech, 6'3' 205lbs. He has good size, quickness, athletic ability and physicality. Can not express enough his toughness, displays it going across the middle, and he always lowers his shoulder to deliver hits on opposing DBs to gain the extra yardage. Not very fast. Better suited to a west coast offense. Off field issues, involving drugs will cause him to stay in the 2nd round.

#6 - Kenny Stills from Oklahoma, 6' 189lbs. Solid 2nd round pick. I am an Oklahoma fan, and live in Oklahoma and watch every Sooner game, unless they are playing a DI-AA school. I do not think Kenny Stills will be a #1 WR in the NFL. I have yet to see him take over a game and dominate a secondary. He has lot of good games, but not many GREAT games that makes you think, 1st round pick!

You're an idiot if you wouldn't take Woods because he's from USC. Woods is nothing like Jarrett or Colbert. Better route runner, more of a devotion to football, faster, everything about Woods is better. If he was two or three inches taller and the Trojans didn't have Marqise Lee Woods would have more of an impact than Mike Williams or Dwayne Jarrett ever had. Robert Woods is a bigger version of our Steve Smith. He's a YAC machine. Get him the ball in open space and he's absolutely deadly due to his return skills. We would be STUPID to not take Woods if we were looking at a WR in the first round and he was on the board....

Allen is my favorite, tons of talent and he is a local. and Hurney loves locals. but you have to add Stedman Bailey and DaRick Rodgers to this list.the WR class is top heavy and it is some good talent coming out. Woods is a different breed USC WR as well, he actually has the dedication to be great and loves the game.

This is so true, Woods has stated on numerous occasions he wants to be the best USC receiver ever, which is why it wouldn't entirely shock me if he decided to come back for his senior year. From every account I've seen he's always studying film, and working on his game. Guys like D.J. and Mike Williams were just freakish in college and relied on that size/athleticism combination to win matchups. Guys like Woods do the little things like running a precise route, competing for the ball, and never giving up on a play. As far as you ranking Allen above him, I completely understand that and wouldn't be upset with either. To me they along with Austin are the game changers in this draft. I would be happy with any of them in the first if WR is where they elect to go....

As far as my rankings...

1A: Woods

1B: Allen

2: Austin

3: Hunter

4: Bailey

Everyone else....

I think Woods is the best all-around WR in the draft. I do have my reservations about him due to the school he attends. He is the most polished WR in the draft, but I don't think he has the most upside. If he were the top WR on my board when we pick, I would not hesitate to draft Woods.

I will address the other WRs that you guys are responding about. All of the WRs you speak of are great college WRs. Not all great college receivers have the attributes that project to the NFL or to be a first round draft pick in the NFL. Currently, there are 3 WRs projected to be a first round pick in this years draft, and those are the only one's I listed. I could have listed Terrence Williams from Baylor because he is a fringe 1-2nd rounder right now. In fact, I will add him.

Marquess Wilson - 2nd round pick

Aaron Dobson from Marshall - 3rd round pick

Cordarelle Patterson from Tennessee - 3rd round pick

Tavon Austin is a very good WR.. but NFL scouts project him as a solid 3rd round pick. He is 5'9" 172lbs. He is less of a prospect than Desean Jackson was after Desean ran a 4.3 forty time at the combine, and he went in the 2nd round. I think this is an accurate projection for Tavon Austin.

Stedman Bailey - Scouts have him projected as a 4th round pick in the 2014 draft. A smaller WR in a air raid scheme that pads receivers stats. For some reason, the scouts are not completely sold on the WR talent from WVU. (Not trying to pick on you Squirrell)

      Yes, more recently. The way duke fans act you'd think they'd won five of the last ten or something crazy when they've actually won zero if the last ten. They haven't even even played in a championship ship game in the last decade. Carolina has played in three. For all the elite NBA talent that has come through Durham, duke is in a woeful championship drought. Duke fans used to talk all kinds of poo about how Carolina failed to win titles with Stackhouse/Wallace and Carter/Jamison and honestly they had a point. We should've gotten a title or two out of those teams. But man, duke's current run of elite talent with no titles puts that to shame.

      In response to mailbag questions about drafting a center from Observer, Zietlow gives this infO  From Alex The Panthers, after all, aren’t going to be as stacked with interior offensive linemen who can be converted into centers as they were last year. Cade Mays is already gone to Detroit. Austin Corbett moved on to Buffalo. Brady Christensen might still come back, but his future is murky too … and he ruptured his Achilles five months ago.   Keylan Rutledge. The guard out of Georgia Tech has received high marks in the pre-draft process, and if he drops to the Panthers at No. 51 somehow, they should take him. He worked at guard and center during the 2026 Senior Bowl.   Jake Slaughter. The 6-foot-5, 303-pound center out of Florida really impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, notably with a 5.1-second 40-yard dash time. He’s a center by trade, and coach Dave Canales likes athletic centers who can get to the second level of the defense. Slaughter is projected to be a third- or fourth-round pick.   Billy Schrauth. Another draft, another Notre Dame draft pick?At least, it’s possible with Schrauth, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound interior offensive lineman and team captain. He spent most of his college career at guard, but reports indicate a transition to center would be easy for him. He’s projected to be a Day 3 pick.
