My flag football kids...

...went 4-2-1 this season :D

(yes, they're more successful than the Panthers) :(

Been working with these little fellas for a while now. Can't describe how good it feels to have been able to see some of them turn from raw kids with little or no background in the game into really good football players. We try to teach them the reasons why they do what they do, and they've caught on to the nuances of the game better than I would have expected for their age (5th-7th grade).

The head coach refers to me as his 'offensive coordinator'. We've got a playbook of about 24 plays (they don't have to memorize them; they're on index cards that they look at in the huddle) this year. Previously he's had me write a new playbook just about every season but I'm gonna try to convince him to stick with the plays we have now because they worked pretty well with the kids we've got.

Guess I'm the flipside of Juan Castillo because all of my playing time was spent on defense but now I'm the guy who writes the offense

At any rate, they had a great season this year. Had more speed on defense than in prior seasons and it really made a difference. Plus we added a new kid who was so lightning fast he was an instant playmaker (already had one of those, now two - matchup nightmare) :D

So yeah. Right now, I'm a proud coach.

No

I never settled on a name for my offense. Boltergeist suggested "Mini-Coryell" since I used things like multiple formations, play action, etc. But the kids I coach likely have no idea who Don Coryell is.

(they do pretty well picking up his principles though)

Still working on the name, but "read option" definitely isn't in consideration.

5th to 7th grade here. Guess we're both in the 5 to 7 range

The group I'm in actually does a "combine" of sorts at the beginning of each season. We run the kids through some drills, chart out their results and then try to split them up so that the talent is evenly distributed.

I'll give you three guesses whose job it is to design the drills, charts the results and divide the teams

(not that I mind; it's all fun)

    • You do, the guy who doesn’t appear to grasp projection.  as the entire board knows, I do in fact, take positions.  The position here I have taken is that Bryce Young is a weak bottom tier starting QB, without NFL starting QB tools, that we must move on from.
    • The OP for one. Asserting that people blamed Bryce for the loss in the title of the thread. That was not the prevailing sentiment at the time this thread was created. Very much a minority thing, I don’t remember but maybe one person if that, putting it on Bryce as the main reason. Troll thread. Did a good job too. Look at the pages.  Someone counting up the draft picks as 10 on offense and 10 on defense or whatever the number was, today or yesterday - of which the offensive ones were heavily 1s and 2s and the defensive picks were heavily day 3 and declaring that proof that the offense wasn’t favored like people claim. The obvious neglect we watched for two years. I spent time refuting that bullshit because someone needed to.  People saying we are bad horrible people and hate poor lil Bryce for no reason, as if it is a personal thing. Constantly.   Along the same lines is people saying we non Bryce fans would rather lose than have him play well and the team wins. That we are mad when the team wins   Point illustrated.
