Shannahan's take on the read option

Skins fan here and thats not true even though alot of people do believe that. Atlanta & Cincy held us down some mainly due to Shanny going conservative at home for some reason. Thats why we had that 9 game home losing streak. He would turn RG3 loose on the road and go conservative at home. I hated it soo much.

Against Atlanta, they never stopped our run. We had like a million rushing yards but unlike our road games, we just kept running non stop. On the road we mix it up with the playaction pass and then we also would pass on 1st or 2nd down. In that & the Cincy game it was all run run run run, pass and even then the pass was a stupid short screen or something.

The same thing actually happened in our game against Minny. We ended up scoring like 38 points but I bet anything that we may have lost and wouldve only scored like 13 if it wasnt for Minny jumping out to a 9-0 lead. It forced Shanny to finally open it up at home and then we went off in the last 3 quarters.

Thats why I acutally think we will win the game against you guys. I think Shanny has learned his lesson and wont do that at home anymore. I think we will finally be tough to beat at home. As for the Pitt game, they never stopped our run. Alot of the media people said that but it wasnt true. We still were well over 4ypc. We just had a game plan to throw more and we also got behind early so we had to throw more.

It still wouldve worked but we dropped a NFL high 11 passes. Even the Steelers fans all admitted that it wouldve been a different game if we could catch. Now they held RG3's rushing but thats another misconception. Some games we dont look for RG3 to run much. You probably see the same thing with Cam.

He might have games with very lil rushing yards but its mostly because he wasnt trying to break long runs or it wasnt the game plan. Still, we need to get healthy. RG3 can easily beat teams with his arm but he has no Steve Smith or Reggie Wayne. Garcon was a beast for us but he wont be back for a couple of weeks at the earliest and now we are without Fred Davis. We have all show guys who cant catch

Sounds to me like you're not sold on Shanny's coaching skills. The reason "WE" lost nine games in a row at home is because the team hasn't been very good. Conservative or not.

As i said before the offense is predicated to Washington's ability to run the ball. It keeps defenses honest. RG3's play action skills is a wonder to behold and the read option works in his system because of it. Carolina has struggled with their read because of an over all weak running attack.

The Atlanta Game, yes they force fed the run because of Roberts injury, plan and simple.

The Vikings game was won again because of Minnesota's udder confusion on defense. They didn't know if Washington was coming or going. There is an ESPN video of Jared Allen looking completely lost and stating the fact.

Also they did a fine job against the Giants but turnovers did them in. RG3 with two.

Steelers just kicked Washington fanny, no use in sugar coating it. They slammed the ground game, which is something they do well, and held RG3 in check.

Injuries,

The difference between me and most fans is i don't use injuries as a excuse. Every team has injuries . The next man stands up and does his job. You'll never hear me say we lost because so and so was injured.

BTW i'm a Redskins fan, the original Gritsrgreat.

sounds to me like you let the other posters boost your head into feeling that I was coming at you when I really wasnt but whatever.

As for the comments, Im a very big fan of Shanny. Other then the fact I think he went mad conservative at home against Cincy, Atlanta, and the 1st quarter of the Minny game, I think he's been very good on O.

Saying the Offense is based off of PA and saying it is needed to succeed is 2 totally different things. Its always going to look like that because Shanny is always going to run and 9 times out of 10 you will have a good rushing game when you combine RG3 with Shanny's zone schemes but I dont think its needed for them to move the ball.

I think if the run is stopped or if they are pass 1st then they can still move the ball just as easy "if" healthy. I totally disagree with the next man up thing. Obviously you can still be successful but there is a reason why some guys are backups. Lets see how you feel if RG3 gets hurt and you have to play a Rex Grossman. I guess that doesnt matter, right?

Also, I totally disagree with you on the Falcons game. You make it sound like he got hurt before that game. The Falcons is the team he got hurt against and he didnt get hurt until the very end of the 3rd quarter.

Again, how did the Steelers slam the ground game shut if you are getting over 4ypc? Are you saying the stats lie about the double digit drops? Im not trippin about that game though. They were obviously the better team. It was the only game I felt we didnt deserve to win along with "maybe" the Cincy game but again, I felt that one had more to do with Shanny being over conservative until it was too late

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
