DT is a lock in the 1st round

I'd be fuging pissed if we drafted Hankins. Dude is not that great and just doesn't seem to have a great motor. Richardson would be the best DT to take. He is fast. He shreds Olinemen like nothing and can chase down RBs sideline to sideline. Also he is a great pass rusher from inside. After him Williams would be nice. He is a bulldozer. The suggestion that we may take a DE is hilarious. I'd bet every penny I made for the rest of my life that we are definitely not going to take a DE. Our first pick is 100% garaunteed to be a OG, OT, DT, or WR.

I go back to what Gettlemen said ("QB, touchdown makers, pass rushers, and big guys")\

Then Mayock said something I seem to hear this time of year "4 cornerstones of a team are DE (pass rushers), #1 CB, QB, and LT (big guys).

To me, you take the LT. The LT protects the QB. Your current LT is in decline and is aging out. LTs are hard to find unless you draft in the top 15 each year; we do not expect that in 2014. While Joekel and Fisher expect to be gone, Lane Johnson will be in the mix. After the combine, I expect LJ to rise to a mid-first grade.

There are about 7-10 starting CBs in this draft. If you can get a Rhodes, Ryan, Poyer, etc, in the second round, you laugh about it because you just drafted 2 of the four cornerstones. You already had the other 2 (Cam and CJ).

What about G? Draft one later and sign a free agent. You cleared about $7-9 million to shop free agency, so sign a RG to a short contract and develop a RG;

What about DT? Draft one later and sign one in free agency. Glen Dorsey might flourish in a 4-3; give him a cheap, one-year deal. Detroit has a few that are leaving. We could bring in one or 2 for about $5m.

What about WR? This bothers me, but we have Smitty, Gettis, Lafell, Smitty, Adams, Pilares. Maybe the new OC and WR coach will find talent in what we have. IT is there. Nonetheless, I would watch the waiver wire.

Besides, they are not cornerstones. LT is one. LT, CB, and then G or WR. DT.

It would be great if we could trade back in round 1, getting a round 3 pick

Pick 1 : LT (Fluker, Johnson.. should be available late round 1, haven't watched any of them yet, so won't decide which one)

Pick 2 : WR (Patton, Patterson or Allen would be huge mid round 2...)

Pick 3 : CB (This seems to be a deep CB draft, we should have some value in round 3).

Fluker would not be bad, he has tremendous arm length (87 inch wingspan; 36 inches long) but they say he is a bit sluggish to play LT. I don't know that losing 30 lbs Would not cure that. If I am wrong, he could still play RT and possibly RG.

I personally think that if we trade back, Johnson is going to the Rams at 16. I think a lot of people do not think he is ready to start, but I think his pass-blocking skills are on point now. He needs to add 10-15 pounds of muscle, but he is high character and will work. If we keep Gross for another season, then you can wait until the third and take a guy like Quessenberriy, a guy few know about, but he looked solid in drills. Needs to add 20 lbs.

I am afraid Patton Patterson and Allen will be gone when we pick.

CB is deep, but I think starters will be gone by about pick 50. I think we can grab a nickel corner in the third or fourth.

Just my thoughts. Love the personnel you are thinking about though--we all seem to be on the same page. (I think we draft a DT late and get one in free agency)
