For the same reason most students write four words when two will do to meet their word count. ESPN often does not have anything important to say so they have to fill the air with something.

NOPE. A fee has to be paid to say Superbowl now. Listen to the radio commercials for sports bars and other places that have parties and specials. No one can say superbowl.
