I hate to talk about this because this issue ended up creating such a clusterfug on this forum but since there's so much misinformation happening in this thread I feel like I need to speak up. His extension barely shaved two and a half million off the cap. If the best solution you could come up with to create that room is to hand somebody 20 million guaranteed the next two years then lol I don't know what to say about your football acumen, regardless if 2010 was uncapped there's like 400 different ways you can create that smidge of space.

Part of that guaranteed money was the 6.25 million salary he was already going to earn in 2009. So the guaranteed money they supposedly wasted was either 12.7 if they didn't exercise the options or 10.14 million if exercised between certain dates. It is all here:

You are right about not saving more than 3 million which we needed to pay Peppers, but it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be given where we were at the time or the hope that Delhomme could resurrect his career after a rocky recovery from surgery. It really didn't hurt us at all and let us keep Peppers one more year. It had nothing to do with why we dumped everything in 2010. Hindsight is always 20-20.
