Cordarrelle Patterson vs. Tavon Austin

This is probably more a Tavon Austin post than a "Patterson vs Austin" post. There are Patterson fans and Austin fans on this forum (excluding the Keenan, etc fans). I love both, dont get me wrong but I'm more on the Tavon bandwagon. I would not be mad at all if we were to land Patterson. But, this is my case for Tavon over Patterson.

The two are similar in that both are "play makers". The only difference is their size. People wants to praise Patterson bc of his ability to make plays, but the thing is Austin makes those kind of plays every single week, and he does it BETTER.

Look here. This is the play that everyone talks about when Patterson is mentioned.

Now look at this. I already posted this video I found on another thread, but what I have here is a 10 min video of Tavon doing the exact same thing Patterson did in the video above. Get my point?

Both are exciting and play makers. Austin is just more dynamic/explosive, and does it more on a consistent basic than Patterson.

This is a video I found by Rosterwatch (Alex Dunlap and Mike Loyko; no clue who they are). This was before the Senior Bowl and Combine, but I thought they did a good break down on Tavon Austin.

You dont draft slot wr's / KR's with the 14th pick.

Austin is good, but he is a luxury pick, something we dont have

Thats probably what all 32 teams said in 2004 for Welker (SLOT RECEIVER). Thats why he went undrafted.

In a redo 2004 Draft, would you seriously think Welker wouldnt be a top 14 pick over guys like Roy Williams (7), Reggie Williams (9), and Lee Evans (13), or over guys like Michael Clayton (15), Michael Jenkins (29), and Rashaun Woods (31) who all made the 1st round?

Like I said, if we didnt have other major needs than I wouldnt mind Austin.

Luxury pick imo

Receiver is a need. Do you really think that we're good at that position by signing Ted Ginn? Lafail is nothing but a solid no.3, and Ginn is an unproven receiver. He failed to produce in a Jim Harbaugh's system. Im not sure how much he can be under Shula.

We need guys that can flat out ball on this offense. I dont care if they're 5'8 and not 6'3. We need guys who can keep the chain moving, and convert on 3rd down. Austin could be that guy.

Who's a number 1 receiver on the outside in this Draft? Patterson? Keenan? Hunter? Im not sure if they can be. Id have to go with Hunter probably out of those three. Keenan may become a great no.2 instead of a number 1.

People I see that can / could be a number 1 in this draft

Hopkins

Rodgers

Hunter

Williams

Allen

Patton

Patterson (solely on potential as he needs alot of work, to risky for me)

Id go with Hopkins as a sure thing. At the very least you are getting a dominant #2.

He has insane hands and route running, to go along with insane stats and a respectable WR body.

You're telling me that just bc Austin is a "slot", doesnt mean he can be a No.1?

So, Welker isnt a no.1? Percy isnt a no.1? Both of them are no.1 receiver. "GO TO GUY".

Can Welker Line up in any other position besides the slot?

I would also like to see how Welker looks when he isn't in that Patriot offense.

When I say number1 it is in reference to the outside WR. ie the 1&2 are generally on the outside with the 3 being the slot

Austin like Welker can def be "go to guys". Just like a TE. Just not number1 receivers in my definition.

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
