Game 8: Carolina Hurricanes (2-2-3) @ Toronto Maple Leafs

Recommended Posts

What: Carolina Hurricanes @ Toronto Maple Leafs
When: 7:00 P.M.
Where: Air Canada Centre (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

It's been said that in order to make the playoffs, a team must gain six points in the standings for every five games they play.

The Hurricanes recorded exactly six points in their first five games. However they currently only have one point going into the third game of their second five. In order to keep pace in the standings (mainly with Pittsburgh; who could easily run away with the Metropolitan Division), the Canes need to at least get a point in tonight's game.

It will be difficult for the Canes to get a result tonight as Toronto is one of the hottest teams in the NHL, but Carolina tends to play well against the Leafs.

Here is to a Canes win tonight!!!

Line-Up

Tuomo Ruutu - Eric Staal - Alexander Semin
Nathan Gerbe - Jordan Staal - Jiri Tlusty
Jeff Skinner - Riley Nash - Radek Dvorak
Drayson Bowman - Patrick Dwyer - Kevin Westgarth

Andrej Sekera - Justin Faulk
Brett Bellemore - Ron Hainsey
Jay Harrison - Ryan Murphy

Cam Ward
Justin Peters

Scratched: Brett Sutter, Mike Komisarek
Injured: Elias Lindholm, Tim Gleason, Anton Khudobin, Joni Pitkanen (season ending IR)

What's the timetable for Lindholm's return?

Muller said they expect to get Lindholm back against the Islanders (10/19, this Saturday) and expect Gleason to be back (10/24, next Thursday).

Muller also said that he expects Komisarek to get some playing time soon, they are just waiting for him to get his confidence back up through practice.

Finally, there isn't any new news on Khudobin but a pretty reliable source on a a website I use said that they expect Khudobin to be out two to three weeks. If this info is true, this would put him back at the earliest against the Penguins (10/28, Monday) or at the latest against the Flyers (11/5, Tuesday).

    • Technically speaking, Fields has been a better QB than Bryce Young in the NFL.  I mean it’s bottom rung comparing by BY isn’t better.  Thats what I don’t get about the talk this week.  We don’t have a QB edge
    • Might be different against a team with no legitimate pass catching options outside of their rookie TE though.  Their #1 WR tomorrow has 8 catches this season, next best WR receptions number this year is 4. If we can't defend that while Horn travels with their TE, then we have some serious problems.   Maybe we don't end up doing that in the end, but it's probably how I'd be scheming up the defense tomorrow when they have only 1 non RB pass catching option.
    • I fought sleep to stay awake just to watch that fumble on the goal line as we were going in for the go ahead score and said fug it, I'm going to bed. I've seen this movie before. I know how this ends. This bullshit of having California teams in conference with east coast teams is trash. That game probably didn't end until 2:30AM. Hell, it was 2AM at the time of the fumble and there was still 3+ minutes to play. In conference games being played into the 2AM hour for local audiences is terrible for the game. And the worst rule in football really does need fixed. Fumbling through the endzone or a fumble recovers by the D in the end zone should not result in a touch back and the ball on the 20. Fumbling through the endzone should not be a turnover. Fumbling out of bounds isn't a turnover anywhere else on the field. That should be the offense's ball on the one yard line. If the D recovers it in the endzone it should be the D's ball on the one yard line. Everyone knows this and everyone talks about it so just fix it already. If Cal was getting the ball at the goal line instead of out to the 20 I would've kept watching. That's a completely different scenario than the ball at the 20.
