Camp Countdown: Tight Ends

kings hands are fine. he catches what goes his way, he doesn't get much as far as YAC and it isn't sexy but he does exactly what is required of him.

I hate this excuse for him.....(not directed at you just hear it way too much)

You know King is one of my pet players, I've seen him since college and been impressed with his hands and blocking ability. So what do you consider elite? Algie Crumpler? As a State fan probably not but most of the NFL does. He's average .4 yards after catch more than King, .4. Why does King get thrown under the bus?

And certainly not against you...

Quality TEs are so overrated its ridiculous. Look at what the best TE in the game (Gonzo) has accomplished with his team. The same people that value TEs are the same people that claimed Shockey would take NO to the next level and Vernon Davis should be a top 10 selection.

I'm fine with a "bring your hard hat" type guy like King.

That because Rosario isn't really good at anything. He isn't fast, doesn't have great hands and doesn't block all that well. At least Barnidge has better speed and better hands. And Brock is the best of both worlds although he hasn't done anything yet and may disappoint like many others have before him.

Rosario really hasn't doesn't much in his time here. And while no one outside of King has done much of anything, how much longer do you pass over other guys to keep Rosario when his claim to fame is one TD catch the first game of the year in 2008. Other than that, not much else. What makes you think this will be a breakout year?

"outside of King" suggests that King's numbers were very good, or better. Yet they finished the same. Barnidge has neither better hands nor more speed.

Brock hasn't done anything. Barnidge hasn't either. Rosario was fantastically inconsistent but he won a freaking game for us. He's second on the depth chart, cheap, young, and probably improves over last year. He's a good route runner, he does have speed, RAC, and ability after the catch. He can and has gotten deep. He's a good compliment to our other good TE, King. Luckily, King learned how to block and added 10 lbs - somewhat to the detriment of his speed, sure.

We have all the TE we need. Chances are the depth chart doesn't change and I'm more than fine with that.

while I agree that King doesn't catch everything, and he had some inconsistencies too (like Rosario, false starts early; he also gave away two balls that should've been his as INTs, and had a few drops), he's shown he can block down, he can block ends outside, and he can reach linebackers.

He can go across the middle, he can out-size linebackers and he'll block ten times in a row and not cry over it. We might have the worst starting TE in the division for receiving, and sure, there are some decent TEs in the NFCS. But he fits us. For all we throw to the TE, him splitting those receptions with a better receiver in Rosario is just fine. They're going to go to the receivers an overwhelming amount, and I'm OK with that.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
