Bay Area Writer: Kaepernick One-Read QB, Cam Actually Reads Defenses

49ers in the tougher division?  Didn't the Saints and Panthers beat the 49ers?  How would they fare in the NFCS?   49ers would probably be third in the NFCS..

And the Panthers lost to the Seahawks and Cardinals.

The west almost put 3 teams in the playoffs, and the last-place Rams finished with 7 wins.

I'm not disparaging the Panthers in any way, but I think most objective fans would say the west was the toughest division in football this year.

So you register on the site for the sole reason of trolling??  :phew:

Trust me, enough Panther fans know all about the 49ers and Kaepernick. I think the reverse is usually true of Niner fans and the Panthers though.

Cam's a better QB than Kaep. And, while Cam does mangle a metaphor or two in his interviews, he doesn't sound or look like Kaep, which is a bonus.

You/we realize how silly the media picking on select Cam press conferences, when you actually watch Kaepernicks behavior on, off the camera, and on twitter. There's no comparison. SMH

Discourse with the opposition is trolling?  I registered because the two teams are playing in a huge playoff game this weekend, and I wanted to discuss.

The Panthers are a great team, and I expect a great game.

How is Kaep "Clutch", when he's not even the focal point or best player on their offense, where much is required (like Cam)?? You can't be that daft (especially on a Panthers board), can you? Lol

I used statistics in specific clutch situations.  Like being up 1-8 points, being down by 1-8 points. Deep passes of 30+ yards (bit play ability) and his numbers on 3rd down.   They are all impressive numbers in those situations.  SO, there you go.

Its not easy to be the best player on an offense with so many  perennial pro bowlers and all pro type guys.

The only stat that matters on third downs, is converting them into first downs...

As qbs do, most throw , and even though cam runs for some, he throws for many more, just like most qbs.  So, as far as throwing is concerned, Kap is more efficient on third down.  As far as running, cam is.   The only reason why throwing is more important in this statistic is because you pass far more than you run for first downs.

Actually, Cam has so many first down runs on 3rd.....his numbers aren't as distorted as most QBs

Cam and Kap are basically a push converting 3rds with there arm

Big play passes aren't a clutch stat. See Newton's numbers in 2011 and 12. His big pass plays were there.....he is far more clutch now without the highlight reel chuck passes

He's ran for 41 and threw for around 120 or so of them.  So i think its pretty evident even he throws significantly more than runs on 3rd down.

Overall, on 3rd down, the only stat Cam really excels at over Kap is rushing.  Using their arm, and compare stuff  like first downs, completion %, td, int, qb rating, sacks etc-- kap has better numbers.  But yes you are right, he does have those 41 rushing first downs. 2.5 per game.

They could easily be a factor in a defensive matchup like this.  All it takes is one.   But you are right here too, Cam is clutch when you dont make him throw the ball very far.

Check your stats.....not talking about attempts but actual conversions.

Cam doesn't throw the ball far bc of our team philosophy. Chunk plays go against what our team wants to do. They want long slow drives. Eat up clock as limit opportunities for both teams.

So it goes back to....how good is your team on a per drive basis. Carolina doesn't give teams chances to figure it all out all day. You don't get all the trial by error against Carolina. What you do better work.

"Kaep" is not the best player on his offense. He may not even be the second or third best player.

He's not needed that way. The 49ers and Harbaugh, just don't want him to mess it up. End of story.

The Panthers can't win if Newton doesn't make plays (regardless of his stats). He carries a much heavier burden.

His receivers, running game, and O-Line are just not that reliable.

And in his first two years [Newton's], neither was his defense or coaching, in addition to those other areas mentioned.

This

End of the Kaep vs Cam discussion

you got VD, Crabtree, Boldin you have little room to argue that your qb is better unless he is putting up an all-pro caliber season, if Cam had these weapons he could be staring at an historic season especially considering the type offense he runs

Cam clearly is better and more important to his offense than Kaep
