I've lived in or near Wilmington all my life... certainly not a metropolitan area to say the least...

I've been to Charlotte many times and hung out downtown quite a lot both during the day and night...

Is it NYC? No. Is it nice, absolutely.

I would live there in a heartbeat.

I was born and raised mostly in the Charlotte area. Lived up in Wilkes County for a bit as a teenager. Moved back to the Charlotte area (Concord actually).

I remember taking a third grade field trip to the Discovery Place and seeing a row of buildings being demolished for what would become B of A corporate center. I believe the tallest building at that time was the building behind the Omni.

I've since lived in Europe, spent some time in Asia, lived on the west coast, in the middle of the country, then finally back to charlotte.

While there isn't a whole lot that makes Charlotte special, it is far from being a crappy city.
