Realistically, we don't really know if he was ever a Panther fan.  Per the clip, he grew up in Indiana and then moved to Oregon.  Doesn't seem a likely prospect to become a Panthers fan.

 

He got a Panthers jacket somewhere along the line, though B)  The patch on the arm was from a special edition of some sort, but I forget what for (10th anniversary, maybe).
