SIOS Goes To Guatemala

As suggested by Arsen, I'll make this into its own thread.

Basically, me and two friends decided to go a little nontraditional for Spring Break and hop on a plane down to Guatemala. None of us knew a lick of Spanish, but luckily one of their fathers had a contact down there who picked us up at the airport and drove us to this town in the mountains called Cuilapa.

We stayed at what was likely the nicest place in the area, as it had running water and WiFi in the lobby. About 20 minutes outside of Cuilapa in a little community called Los Chilitos, there was an American based organization paying some local masons to build a school. We hitched a ride out to Los Chilitos each day to help the builders construct the school.

Along the way, we met a lot of amazing people, especially the children of the village. I came to love the place and the kids in just a week, which is ridiculous considering I've always been pretty annoyed by kids. It's amazing how the language barrier disappears with young kids, because all they wanna do is play around and be happy.

I wanna plan a return trip for early summer, mainly because I already miss the location and the kids. Just playing around with them is the happiest I've been and most fun I've had in ages. I think it might've changed my early career outlook and instead of jumping into working for the government right out of school, I might wanna seek out work in an NGO or the Peace Corps or something beforehand.

I'm just gonna mass upload all of the pictures into a big gallery, and I definitely think they're worth the look, if for nothing else than for the ridiculously cute kids and the amazing scenery.
